What do you mean when you say MacBooks are miles ahead when it comes to optimization? Are you saying the chassis design, or the OS, or…? I honestly can't figure out how a computer can be miles ahead in "optimization", mainly because I don't know what that could be.
I guess the rest is the same kind of BS as that original dumb marketing (or AI-) shilling 'claims', trying to sell these terribly outpriced and underperforming status quo nose rings.
Unfortunately, I honestly don't think I entirely understand what you're trying to say here.
I gather your experience than mine is different. Okay, I believe that. I'm sharing my experience. I gather you've worked an entire career in IT corporations and in your experience not a single person ever developed code on a Mac. That may be true, seems odd to me given that I know people at Google and MS use MacBooks for development work but I have no reason to doubt you and different people and places do things differently. I've worked for about 16 years around people that have developed code on MacBooks, some people use Windows laptops but most use MacBooks. My experience has been different than yours. That's kinda normal in this world.
I personally don't use Mac and have no desire to. I agree Macs are overpriced and to me MacOS just doesn't feel comfortable or intuitive. iOS seems fine but not MacOS. But I do understand some of the reasons people have, especially it being a Unix based OS; being able to install natively the same packages needed to test or develop things for clusters makes sense.
I'm done on this topic unless you or someone else have specific items to actually discuss. I feel like it's talked out unless there's something new.
I used a Surface Pro 3 for about 4-5 years for work, it got carried in my backpack every day and also probably travelled 250,000 miles on flights plus getting carted around in cities and hotels. No problems at all with build quality on that.
Eventually the cooling fan went and it was way out of spec and IT support for my job. I found a used Surface Pro 4 and used that for a year or so as well. No build quality problems on that either.
I would happily use a Surface Pro again. They're expensive so I don't own one personally and honestly have little need for a premium laptop or tablet at home. But I'd happily get one for work again if I could find an IT department that supports them lol. For work use that seems to be the biggest issue is that standard Enterprise images don't work on Surface due to display, touch interface, and some of the unique hardware. Drivers are a pain and many IT departments flat out refuse to allow employees to have computer that don't use the standard image. It's annoying, though I do understand why.

I'm not sure where you are used to working, but in places I've worked…I'm pretty sure I'd get fired if I tried open up a computer myself. Especially a laptop/tablet. Likely violates cybersecurity policies, could be seen as vandalism or property destruction, and also violates safety policies.
When you're at a company with thousands of employees and aren't actually in the IT group, you don't play with the insides of the computer unless your work or research actually involves messing around with the inside of computers. Mine didn't and doesn't.
Also, I never stated I'm in IT. Sorry if you somehow understood I was, but I never said that.
