Based on a very limited knowledge of electric blankets, my general understanding is that they will try to kill you and everyone you love.

Seriously why would you wrap yourself in wires when a good quality cozy blanky is all you need?

Clearly you've never climbed in bed after one has preheated on a cold winters night.

Its called instant gratification where as if you can just withstand 30 seconds in an actual good blanket you will be glad you did..

When you live up north, that doesn't really work so well.

I've lived 'up north' and in (north) Florida, and a couple states in between - the temp indoors during the winter was pretty much the same, whatever I had the thermostat set to.

I think you might have taken that too far based on a lot of what if's.
There are a lot of fail-safes like low voltage and the controller separated so that it breaks there and the controller and cannot shock you more than a tickle in the worst case since the coils themselves will break and disconnect the circuit.

I have tested these and put them through a lot of abuse for about 10 different types even going from 110v to 220v for international travel, only in that case the wires burnt out but didn't break the protective shielding.
They didn't say anything about shocking, though....

Sunbeam has always been crap for me. Heating pads and blankets. I had a Walgreens brand heating pad that was better than Sunbeam.
