Not accounting for inflation, I'd say somewhere between .99 and $1299.98
Both brands are owned by Voxx International
They also own a few other audio brands

https://www.voxxintl.com/consumer/

I actually own this unit and for this price I dont know anything on the market that touches it for home theater applications

I suggest you read the AVS forum thread from actual owners who have set this up and know the tips and tricks specific to this Onkyo
Each brand seems to have implement Dirac a bit differently..IMO..the Onkyo is a simplified set up of Dirac

Same question. Why this when lx505 is cheaper?
Different sound signatures maybe? Onkyo bright vs Pioneer warm

That's partly it and also bench test say the 505 has even worse power limiting issue than this and global crossovers.

Since Dirac Live relies on the AVR for bass management, that may be an issue for some.

I bit on the X3800 for $899, unsure if that was a good deal or if this would have been better. The biggest disappointment with the X3800 is that it's lacking component or composite video inputs.

Kind of a niche need, but I like connecting my old PS2 or Nintendo NES consoles for some retro gaming to my main TV. There are external adapters that are either 1) cheap and not very good or 2) extremely good and even more expensive.

Depends on priorities you're after.
If Dirac Live rolled in is one, this is about the only real thing this has over the 3800.

On the 3800 you have to purchase Dirac Live for $350 but you get many more features this doesn't have.
As a matter of fact you pretty much get all the ones on the RZ70 and then some.

After you add the Dirac license and an appropriate calibration mic you would be at almost twice the price of the unit in this thread
At that price point I would buy the RZ70 day long.... a lot higher performance than the Denon X3800 in every way
Better dacs, much better amp/power supply and Dirac license and calibration mic included

Considering new ones haven't budged from $1300 and refurbished from A4L increased in price $100, I'd say you got a deal.

Biggest difference is the pioneers do not allow for independent crossovers for each speaker while the Onkyo does. Onkyo better if you prefer independent crossovers over one blanket crossover.

I recently snagged a X4700H for $950 open box on eBay and chose that over this one after doing a ton of research.
This one is better if you need more HDMI 2.1 ports or Dirac, but the x4700 and your x3800 has Auro 3D, which is a great option for upmixing basic DD content to Atmos/DTSX level quality with object based sounds.

The Pioneer lx505 deal has expired. It's $1200 at the moment. I have no information that the deal will be back. Perhaps.
