Wouldn't recommend unless you're ok with it being a paper weight in a few years and like burning money. Nowadays it is mandatory for any smart home device to have local api and access otherwise I don't buy.

Are you referring to Google abandoning support for the 1st and 2nd generation? I definitely don't trust Google with maintaining any of their products long term, but I'm not sure about "in a few years." 1st/2nd gen were released more than 10 years ago, and before Google acquired Nest. This 4th gen came out last year.

Yep, even my Google powered BT speaker from Best Buy has lost all it's brains after 5 years and can no longer set an alarm or turn off lights.

It's simply "no longer supported"
