Pros and cons of waxing

32,000 3,053 February 8, 2006 at 12:01 PM
It seems that lately there have been a more than a few instances of guys waxing various parts of their bodies. We have notable instances of waxing in The 40 Year Old Virgin, and recently in the last episode of Beauty and the Geek.

It looks painful.

There have also been instances of advertising that makes me wonder a bit. I heard an advertisement recently for "his and hers waxing" at a day spa, and they specifically mentioned "bikini waxing" in the ad. That sounds uber painful.

Now, I like to keep things neat and trim for my lady, and she does the same. But waxing? No thank you.

So, my questions in this thread are as follows. Maybe a poll later depending on the kinds of responses we see in this thread. Make sure to mention your gender, and both genders are encouraged to answer this thread.

1). Have you ever had a waxing to have hair removed?

2). Have you done it yourself?

3). What areas have you had waxed?

4). Would you ever consider getting a "bikini wax"?

Other comments are welcome. Keep the thread clean, folks.

Waxing pulls sections of hair out from its root. This method can be very painful and pain-reducing gel is often recommended before applying the wax. Some skin irritation can occur from pulling off the wax as well as inflammation of the hair follicle. Wax should not be on skin that is chapped, sunburned, or on the face if you are using a facial product such as Retin-A or Differin as these weaken the skin and the skin tearing could result when the wax is pulled off. If a professional performs the waxing, treatment cost is about $25-$50 for legs. Do-it-yourself waxing products can be purchased. Hair needs to be at least 1/8 inch long for waxing to be effective. Results from waxing last 3-8 weeks.

1). Have you ever had a waxing to have hair removed?
Yes but see #2.

2). Have you done it yourself?
Only will do it myself.

3). What areas have you had waxed?
Chest and stomach.

4). Would you ever consider getting a "bikini wax"?
Hell no.

The first time hurts the most. After that, the hair does not grow in as thick so it seems less painful.

I've waxed my eye brows & legs. Brows done by professional, legs at home. The only bad part of at home is that I couldn't get all of the wax off & I stuck to my pants.

For the personal areas, I Nair. Leave it on for 3-5 minutes & hop into the shower. The hair comes off with some light rubbing & soap. DH does the same.

I'd never do a bikini or brazilian wax. I don't care for a professional, other than my OB/GYN to see me like that.s
