A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

The original Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Kietel (sp?) was good but explicit.
Do you think they had to remind him to pull his foreskin back when they stopped filming during the nude scene?

laugh out loud I remember thinking WTF?? That was the car scene where he forced a hooker to give him oral. He's so ugly to begin with and then they want to show you more of him. Facepalm

At least in Eastern Promises when Viggo Mortenson was fighting completely nude with his junk flapping around there was something interesting about it. laugh out loud

I recommend a British show called "The Take". Most of you will like it.

Men in Black (1997) - First off, I am amazed that this came out way back in 1997. I feel old! I watched this with my son so we can hit MIB 3 when it comes out. I remember that I didn't enjoy 2 as much as the original, but I'm sure we will also watch that one.

The Graduate (1967) - I am slowling working my way through the American Film Institute's top 100 American movies, and The Graduate checks in at number 17. DirecTV billed this as a comedy, but if it was a comedy, it was definitely a dark comedy. Maybe it is just my perspective, but I'd call this a drama with some very light comedic touches. In any case, I really liked the movie. It was shot brilliantly and the music (by Simon and Garfunkel) was a perfect match for the film. I was born in 1971 and especially enjoyed this peek into the 1960's. Highly recommended!

1940's House (PBS) - I was a huge fan of Frontier House and all the drama and whining so this was a must see. Everyone should be forced back in time to some hardship for 3 months every so often. I think the Bible found under the stairs was planted Sly but the show was awesome.

I'd love to do the 1950's or the 20's. heart

The Avengers Definitely lived up to all the hype. While I like this type of movie anyway, this was particularly well done.
The Hulk stole the show, in my opinion.

Young Adult - Not what I was expecting and certainly not funny. Slow and super dull. 1/5

Just finished watching Trigun yesterday. Yeah, I know it is an anime and not a movie... But apparently a movie just came out this year! woot I'll have to watch that now!

Trigun ended up being much better than I expected from what I saw in the beginning. Great show. The ending also wasn't what I was expecting from an anime, even though it wasn't very clear and leaves you wondering...

Dolphin Tale

I had this recommended to me. A dolphin that loses its tail, and they try to make a prosthetic tail for it. "Based on a true story." I expected it to be pretty corny and overdoing it on tugging at heart strings, but it kept those in check better than I expected so thumbs-up.

Not sure why so much hate for John Carter. Was pretty good for a popcorn movie to me.

And I saw The Avengers again. Because it's awesome.

Hunger Games- Not too sure about all the hype (even though my son and I are reading the books.)
It stayed pretty close to the book...a few strays here and there..and of course there were many areas that needed more time to build on...
I think too much time was spent of stylized filming (shaky camera, ect) and not enough on the politics..

Born to Raise Hell - Steven Seagal. Now even more unbearable to watch. He's an elephant seal with a bad toupee and you know how Mike Tyson talks in a high pitched voice well Seagal is doing the same.
