I vaguely remember something about a weird colored animal statue down on the Mississippi (think IA side, but not sure). Maybe a purple cow?

BUT, call KitchenAid customer service with your mixer model and serial number and ask if the gearbox is all metal or if this one has a plastic gearbox housing. if it is the latter, ask if they will exchange for you since it is new, unused and under warranty. there are many stories of the plastic gearbox cases shattering with use and the motor stopping/burning up in the middle of a task. because of widespread complaints, KA went back to all-metal construction but there may still be some plastic models floating out there.
