Damn I was gone last night for the drama I see Bert has gone off the deep end again. I know of a wretched girl that would be perfect for him
Mal I wish hubby the best of luck with the new job
I'm typing this up at the hospital in hopes that I can get online somewhere and post when I can find a place to get online eventually.
In all the wisdom you'd imagine a soon to be 9 year old would have, grandkidlet tried one of those "hay guise whatch dis!!!" moments off some playground equipment.
His poor little body looks like he went through the briar patch a few times over in addition to the lovely fractured left arm he now sports. Now normally this wouldn't be a huge thing for the average kidlet to endure, but grandkidlet has lived a charmed life. This is his first major injury and he has a few other non-medical issues, including being absolutely terrified of doctors and hospitals in general. It doesn't help that his mother was in complete phreak-out either!!
His fear was so bad it was manifesting itself physically with hyperventilation and making himself vomit. After I got there his mother, father, and I were eventually able to calm him down, but the hospital wanted to keep him for some observations considering everything that happened apart from the arm breakage. When he heard he had to stay at the hospital overnight his little-guy phreak out returned, and lather, rinse, repeat on the hyperventilation and vomitting.
So, obviously I volunteered to stay with him and that seemed to help a lot. Plus it gives his mother and father some time to get some rest. She didn't have an easy time with any of this either. I can reason with her, explain rational thoughts, and tell her about things that happened to me as a parent when she was a child until I am blue in the face!!! And I've tried that! But the truth is - like with many of you - there's no substitute for first-hand experience, and she got some of that today certainly!!! Kids these days!
So it's about 12:30am here now. He's finally asleep - they had to give him a sedative! - and seems to be doing much better while I am quietly typing this up on the other side of the room. After I was certain he was asleep I asked the nurses what they thought about how he was doing and they said he'd probably be okay to be released later today (Saturday) and that all this was just a somewhat overprotective "Cover Your Ass" moment by the hopsital. Because sending a kidlet home when he's like that could be a potential lawsuit probably.
I think he'd do much better at home. I know him very well and the unfamiliar environment is having a huge negative effect on him physically even though I hope that's an issue he grows out of soon. I try not to coddle him and explain things in terms he understands to allay his fears and stuff. Like, "this is the hospital I stayed at when I was sick and I'm still here!!" or "I broke my leg when I was even younger than you are!!! So as long as you don't try walking on your hands think about how much better breaking your arm is???". He laughs at my stupid jokes far more than he should. I love this kid.
So, that's all that's going on here. No internets! I have a few e-books with me to read, and the room is right outside the nurses station and the group that is on tonight seems like a fun crowd, so I've been talking with them often.
Hope to see y'all later today/tonight possibly. I'm sure I have a bunch of PM's waiting for me so can someone update some of the other threads for me? I don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring them or anything like that and I can't stay here long enough to post more than this!!!
Update: It's now 12:00 pm ish and I am in the car outside a local restaurant on their unsecured wi-fi when I got relieved to get lunch !
