We all like to buy stuff. We all like to give stuff. Secret Santa is all of that! Woot

*The Rules*

You need to have been a member for at least six months with 1000 posts OR 100 reps.

This isn't done to be mean or exclusive. However I know the biggest reason I've had fun with Secret Santa in previous years is because I've known the person well enough to be able to know what they'd truly like and be excited to hear what they think about it. If you don't have enough posts/reps this for this years Secret Santa, we hope you can join us next year Smilie

You need to sign up by November 12th.

To do this please email me at [email protected].

Please write your screen name in the title so I can keep the addresses sorted more easily. In order to have your name added to the list of participants you need to send me your address. As with every year, this address will only be seen by me and the person who is sending you the gift. Under no circumstances will your address ever be given out to anyone else. If it's found someone has given out another person's address they got from the Secret Santa they will be banned from this and future Secret Santas.

*If you are uncomfortable sending me an email/letting me know your email address, you can PM me. Please put Secret Santa in the title.

I can only put your name in the list of participants once I have received your shipping address.

Spending limit is $20.00 plus shipping.
I know many of us have had some hard times with money in the past year. $20.00 is the limit but you do Not have to spend that much. From what I've seen in the past, some of the best/funniest/most thoughtful gifts haven't always been the most expensive. Just send what you think will make the person you're sending the gift to smile.

Your gift must be shipped by December 11th.
You must get a delivery confirmation and a tracking number just in case the gift gets lost in the mail or if there is any confusion about if the package has been delivered or not. Please send me that tracking number. Four weeks of shopping should be plenty of time to find something for your person.

You will need to fill out the Secret Santa questionnaire found at the bottom of this post.
Please fill this out as much as you can. It will make it easier for your Secret Santa to find something you truly like if you answer it completely.

So you're excited to participate. What happens now?

1.) Email me or PM on or before Friday November 12th that you want to participate. Include your shipping address. You will not be added to the list unless I have received your address. There will also be a list in the wiki of people who are participating. Please include your name there as well.

2.) You will see a questionnaire at the end of this post. Please answer those questions and make a new post with those answers.

3.) Soon after the November 12th cut off date you will receive the name and address of the person you get to play Secret Santa for. Click on the person's name in the wikipost to be taken to their questionnaire and what they've said they'd like.

4.) Get it all ready and ship by Saturday December 11th. Make sure to buy the delivery confirmation and tracking number. Please email or PM me that you have shipped it and the tracking number. USPS gives it free for online ordering.

5.) Please email or PM me when you have received your gift.

6.) Jump up and down with joy. A present!! You can post in the thread you received it and if you opened it you can share what you got if you like.

7.) After Christmas Day we can all tell everyone who we shopped for. It will also be updated in the wiki. Please try to keep secret as much as you can who you are shopping for. Wink

*FAQ*

Can I open the package as soon as I get it or do I need to wait until Christmas?
Some people can't wait to rip into the package and others want to save the excitement for Christmas Eve/Day. The choice is completely yours.

What if I'm going to be out of town around the time the gift will be arriving?
It's understandable that this time of year people travel out of town to see family and friends. If that's the case, please make sure to have your deliveries held at the post office/UPS/etc. If you know in advance you will be out of town, you can contact me with the dates you'll be gone and I'll let your SS know. They may be able to adjust when they ship it so it will get to you while you are there.

Crap. I wanted to participate but now I can't for whatever reason. What do I do?
Life happens. We understand that. However please let me know this as soon as you realize you are unable to participate this year. This is very important.

I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to ship in time or I completely forgot I needed to buy/ship the gift by December 11. What do I do?
Let me know right away. It is very sad to hear about someone who's waiting everyday to see when their gift arrives only to not have it come. If for some reason it is shipped out later, I'll inform the person you are shipping it to that it may arrive a little late. However shipping it late is not ideal and I'm sure we will all be able to meet the shipping deadline.

Wow, I read my person's questionnaire but I still have NO idea what to get them or I have a question about something on their list. What should I do?
You can either email/PM me and I can contact your person and ask them for more info. You could also PM someone you know is their friend and ask them to ask your person for clarification on their list.

Can I request to be a particular person's Secret Santa?
No.

Can I change who I'm supposed to buy for once I receive their name?
No.

I was involved in previous years but didn't send a gift because I forgot/got busy/whatever. Can I enter this year?

I'm sorry but no.

Autumn, I know how bad you are at answering PMs. Will you actually read and answer them for Secret Santa?
Yes. I cleared out my PM box and as of now it's empty and ready for PMs. I'll check it several times a day at least.

The Questionnaire

Favorite Type of Food (i.e. Italian, Mexican, McDonald's, Burger King, etc):
Favorite Candy (things that won't melt or go bad in mail):
Favorite Scent:
Favorite Hobby:
Favorite books or type :
Favorite movies or genres:
Favorite animal:
Favorite Color:
Favorite Store:
Favorite Sports Team:
Favorite Music Artist/Type or a CD you would like:
Do you have any pets:
Do you collect anything:
Are you male or female:
Is there anything (not expensive) you want or need:
Is there anything that you Don't want:
Anything else you would like your SS to know about you:

Last year I ran a last chance sign up because some people hadn't been to The Lounge in awhile and did not see the Secret Santa or had forgotten to enter. If there is someone you think would want to participate please PM them and make sure they know the sign up date.

Have fun!!

here's the update i sent to autumn after finding out that my recipient was leaving town early and rushing to the fedex office with the latest overnight pick-up...

Quote :
it was quite a feetfeat. a lot of traffic on the 5 so i had to use roads--with the dash clock flashing the time in my face, reminding me that the latest pick-up deadline was nearing. i made it to the fedex kinko's, realizing that i was in the wrong lane: i cut a guy off in gridlock traffic. as i took my right, i saw the delivery man take his left into the parking lot. he got in there before i did...as i walked in, i exclaimed: "am i too late?" and the delivery man said "no, you've got plenty of time!"

driving 10 miles in traffic and burning two gallons of 92 octane petrol = $6, round trip
overnight shipping for 23 lbs. of stockpile loot via fedex = $67.
procrastinating to the very last minute and pulling off an epic win = priceless.
the latest pick up at this particular location is 5pm and i got there at 5 0 1. Big Grin

I never did post what my SS sent. I took the weekend off from SD to be with family and be on baby watch.

And now that I'm at work I am drawing blanks on everything I received from my SS. I suck today. Mad

I'll post pics when I get home today.

so if we are allowed to guess now i'm guessing Demosthenes9 as my SS
that is who I thought...originally

Quote from desrtrnnr :
i know.. but i've wanted to guess since i got it, so i have looked at the list
I actually thought I was starting with a somewhat intelligent guess

Quote from desrtrnnr :
and now i cant look at the list again to find someone else that could be my SS, i know its a guy and i think he's from texas
I know mine is a guy, because of the wrapping and assumed he was from Texas because of the gifts, which by the way ROCKED!!!

Here are my gifts. I did wait until bright and early Christmas morning, but couldn't wait any longer. I received? BBQ sauce, which sounds absolutely delicious! A deck of cards - with Texas on them, so that is why my SS MUST be from Texas, an Apple Water bottle, two Yankee candle votives (both smell scrumptious) a votive holder, a squeeky toy, which was opened immediately. As you can see my dog was with me when I opened and he picked the right one first. And a "bottle" of whiskey! I was so excited to try an expensive type.....ha ha ha ha. Thanks so much SS look aroundlook around(LANDERS!!) Thank you so much. bounce

Thanks for the gifts !!! Have been using the putty since the day I opened the package and read A War of Gifts a couple days later. The Platypus book is next on my list.

Thanks again !!!!!
Yay, glad you are using them all. I noticed you used the same questionnaire two years in a row so couldn't pull anything off the year before and this year did have more questions. So, I was really hoping you would like at least one thing I got. Couldn't really think this year, I had to put my dog to sleep in the middle of the SS event and then I got sick...but I didn't flake Smilie

I need to learn from some of the pros though with all the items they bought for $20 so I can be ready for next year

And thanks again MissyMooMoo hug, I had 4 people on my list who I thought was my SS and you were one of them

Heheh, oooops, my bad. I scanned the first couple of questions and it looked to be the same questionnaire, so being the lazy bastard that I am, it was c/p time Smilie

Sorry to hear about your dog. It would have been understandable if things did go out late. My dad almost died during last year's SS and it caused me to miss the shipping deadline by a day or two.

Stuff happens. It's seeing it through and doing the best you can that counts.

I read the entire label and took a picture and emailed it to myself so I could figure out who my SS was. I was going to nail it down this year!!! Thanks so much, it does sound delicious.....there is even a testimonial from David Letterman on their website:

Paul and I were in Austin a year ago and if you want good, real actual BBQ, you got to go to Austin…Salt Lick, that's right, Salt Lick…tremendous. I bring this up because I'm hoping they'll send us some."
-David Letterman

If you can't trust David, who can you trust??? LMAOLMAOnodnodRoll Eyes (Sarcastic)Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) Maybe we should send them some links so you can get something freebie, that would be in total slickdeals fashion.

remember its not always about buying things… you can hit up friends for swag from their company, or if you go to conventions etc, you can collect your own...

Haha. It's really good, but ya have to go to the original location which is about 45 minutes outside of Austin. There is obviously other BBQ around in Texas that is closer and more convenient, but I still love the Salt Lick.
