With T-mobile, sometimes they'd just renew your contract at will, for instance like if you called them for Tech Support, or even with so little as if you sneeze.

They can't do it without your approval - just read the fine print. It would be illegal for them to do it just because you called Tech Support
I am hinting towards the ridiculous practice of applying/renewing a 2 years contract to rate plan changes.
AT&T doesn't require you to renew the contract for mere rate plan changes.
