Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

16,502 1,226 September 22, 2011 at 06:13 AM in Sporting Goods
Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

Defense dictated this game on both sides - not all that many quality scoring chances either way. On to NJ (eww).

Iagree Iagree Iagree

WTF was with that power play where we were shooting on Holtby ourselves?

5 minutes before the end of the game I said to my buddies, "they've already given up," and they had. They were lucky to score a goal at all & they did not deserve to win this game.

That was a shameful appearance & everyone who plays for Washington - with the possible exception of Holtby - should feel bad.

The Caps were playing golf from the minute they stepped on the ice tonight. They were terrible.

I guess it's just another year, same results.

I'm kind of expecting at least the first period to be a hot mess. Sloppy, lethargic, and nervous - for BOTH teams. But I hope I'm wrong (for the Kings, anyway). If Quick is on his A game and the Kings keep it together and play like they've been playing, they can win.

But there's something about Phoenix. And I'm not just talking about this season. For years, now matter how good or bad either team was, the Kings seem to always have issues against the Coyotes. I know they each won 3 games against each other this season, but shit. It worries me.

We'll see!

VERY surprised by this move. There are a LOT of unhappy people in DC today. I think Hunter did a pretty good job considering the mess he was handed. Now if the Caps would only fire their GM and move on.

Iagree

I wonder how much $$$ it would take to lure Hunter back. I think he did a great job. Craig Laughlin was on the Sports Junkies this morning saying that McPhee is probably safe & that the Caps are one of the more "professional" teams (in terms of how the organization is run) that he's ever seen. laugh out loud

So: who would we like to see take the reins?
