About a week ago I logged onto Verizon and went most of the way through the 5-step package selection process, but I canceled out at the end and didn't actually purchase it. Today I got an email from them with a promotional code saying: "Thanks for contacting us. Here's a discount coupon for you. Take $5 off your bundle for 24 months."
So I went ahead and signed up today (install date 12/7 – I can't wait!) and used the Promo Code from the email and it knocked the price down to $74.99/month, thus saving me $120 over the 2 year contract. Plus I have another code that will also get you an additional $50 Amex gift card.

My bottom line:
$74.99/month for 2 years
+ $300 Visa Gift Card
+ $50 Amex Gift Card
--------------------------------------
$60.40/month (after GC)


I finally got my $300 card from Verizon. Please note there is a $3.00 maintenance fee starting the 13th month so use the card before 1 year is up. Also, there is a $6.95 fee to replace the card so don't lose it and there is a 1% foreign transaction fee if the transaction is made outside the US. I recommend just applying your card to your Verizon account and have it give you a $300 credit. It will be used up in about 3-4 months that way depending on your monthly bill. This way you don't have to worry about it.

As for the person who received a card for more than $300, the paperwork says:

Please note that the total card value may be higher than your Verizon Visa Prepaid Card offer to off-set taxes and fees included with your original order.

If you have more than 2 TV's then the media center solution is a better idea. We have three tv's in the house, two hd, and one sd. So the sd box is actually free, the hd-dvr is free, and they waived off the 2nd hd reciever. I only have to pay for the 5 dollar dvr fee. I was currently paying 75 dollars for fios phone and internet, so the extra 5-10 dollars for tv is a no-brainer.

I think the CableCard solution is better if you a comcast user, since they charge less for a cable card tuner. these days you can get xbox 360's for cheap, and the value 299 desktop pc can be good media centers.

Anyone know if you're under contract can you switch to this? It has been a long disaster with fios for my relatives. They switched homes (long story) and Fios could not just swap or move like Directv. So they had to resign up. Well I did the order on the phone and the lady said there was a DVR deal that would really lower the price. She quoted me $109 for triple play. The bill is now $162 only a few months later. The DVR discount she mentioned never happened. And they NEVER use the DVR. So it would be best for them to start over with a good Fios triple play deal and ditch the DVR's. They don't mind a contract. As long as it stays put for 2 years. Thanks in advance.

Wonder if I'd be able to take advantage of this, just having signed up for the double play bundle two weeks ago, just TV and Internet. Think they'd consider it an upgrade and allow it...? Been trying but apparantly the My Verizon (my account) page is having issues. SD effect?

I just checked my relatives address and it states they already have verizon at that address. They've subscribed since August. Then it lists the packages they subscribe to. I see no way to get this deal. I can downgrade or add and remove receivers/services, but this deal is no where in sight for their current address on the verizon website. May try to chat and see what happens.

I don't really mind signing a contract. It locks in my rate for 2 years for a service that I am really reluctant to give up anyway. I had Comcast and then Time Warner after the merger, but I switched to FiOS almost immediately after it was available in my area. I love it. The TV is clear, the phone service is without issue, and the internet doesn't slow down during peak hours like cable does. I don't really have any plans to switch to something else, so the contract isn't a big deal.

Of course, I'm not going to let the reps know that when I call in and ask them to switch me to this plan. I'm not under a contract right now, and as far as they know, I'm willing to leave.
