Samsung LCD/Plasma/DLP TV's Capacitor Class Action Settlement Lawsuit

FINALLY, Samsung is offering a Class Action Settlement on a defective capacitor in some TV's. I am sure lots of people in SD community have bought these early LCD/Plasma/DLP model HDTV's from Samsung around 2008. I had "ln52a650a1f" LCD HDTV that died right after 2 year warranty expired. I called Samsung and argued with manger and ended up cussing at him because they wouldn't acknowledge the problem or give any sort of reimbursement. After doing some research, I found out that lots of people are having same problem with Samsung TVs bought around 2008 and the cause was a faulty capacitor bought from Chingmai electronics (basically means Chinese junk Smilie) that's inside these model TV's.

My problem was getting ghost images, dark multiple images that would clear after TV warmed up for 30-45 minutes but it was a pain the "you know where". So, last month I ended up buying LG 3D TV that I absolutely love and vowed to never buy Samsung again wavewave

Here is the link that you need to check your model and take appropriate action:

NO SAMSUNG TV's for me again.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

STEP BY STEP Instructions to get $300 Card: HERE

============================================
-----------------------------------

Information for reimbursement of $300 by MadCowDeals.

If you don't own the TV anymore, you don't need proof that you don't own it... you need proof that you ONCE owned it (proof or purchase, or SEA can verify such a purchase) and that you filed a complaint

From Page 8 PART D [samsung.com] here: http://www.samsung.com/us/capacit...Notice.pdf

So if you filed a complaint, and have the proof or purchase, or have called with the serial number, that implies reasonable documentation of ownership. I got MY $300 debit card using this method, per the full class notice.

********************************** SETTLEMENT DETAILS [samsung.com] ***************************
You must fill out and submit this form to obtain reimbursement for:

1) Expenses you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012, to evaluate or diagnose the capacitor issue covered by the settlement up to $150

2) Expenses you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012, to fix the capacitor issue covered by the settlement up to $150, or up to $300 if the repair included replacing a power supply board

3) Shipping expenses, including insurance costs, you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012 to fix the capacitor issue covered by the settlement, up to $150

4) A $300 fully transferable debit card if you reported to SEA, prior to March 2, 2012 the capacitor issue covered by the settlement, but did not get it fixed and you now no longer posess your television; or

5) A payment of $50 if, after March 2, 2012, you require more than on repair to fix the capacitor issue covered by the settlement.

>>>In other words, a customer who repaired the set may receive up to $600 for diagnosis, repairs, and shipping, plus $50 if they need more repairs; while a customer who ditched the set can still receive up to $450 for diagnosis and compensation. <<<

If you have any disputes with the Claims Administrator about your claim, you can send the claims administrator a notice of your dispute within 30 days from the date of rejection, along with any supporting documentation. You can request a review of the dispute by the Court. You can also choose to submit the dispute, or any other dispute regarding the terms of the Settlement Agreement, to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Unit of the Division of Consumer Affairs of the State of New Jersey, Office of the Attorney General. Just got a message saying that my claim was approved and the check is being processed.

I mailed it less than two weeks ago, this was actually a resubmitted claim because I forgot to write down that I trashed the TV curbside.

so they accepted your claim by you just saying you trashed the TV with no other proof other than possibly a signed letter?

Correct, I don't think there is any way to currently get proof from the trash guys that they remember picking up my TV from last year.

Thanks, I haven't sent in my paperwork, dragging my feet, but with this information, makes it easier just to create a letter, document the calls and what is being sought.

No problem:
-Filled out the form,
- Checked A, B, C, said I was going for the $300 reimbursement;
- I wrote when I first experienced the clicking/popping and delayed powering up, told them when I left it for curbside pickup,
- Included a copy of the invoice,
- I also wrote the transaction ID from when I contacted SEA.

Good luck with your claim!

I said basically the same thing, I said that i had a quote to repair the TV, which I never kept, and they said i needed that to get my rebate. Also my claim which I made before April 3rd. wasn't sufficient enough. I posted the who letter which was sent back to me in above post.

What if it's way passed the March 2, 2012??? I have had this problem for over a year now. I had no idea there were others with the same problem. As soon as the warranty ended, the problems started!!!! The clicking and taking forever to start the tv. My family would wait a good 10-15 minutes before the tv actually turned on without the purple hue, rainbow vertical lines, and the loud beeps.

Thanks.

Hello did you guys who said you trashed the television require a SN#? I am being asked to give a SN# when I said I no longer own the television and said I threw it away. Although I do have the television still but I don't get why I have to give a SN# when some others didn't and already got approved. Should I just give them the SN#? It may look like I never threw away the television though.

Weird,
I sent in for the $300 check.

Today I got in two separate emails from Samsung. The first was a request for support and repair and the second was for cancellation for the support ticket.

Has this happened to any of you?
