A depressing yet ultimately triumphant fable of alienation and fascism, The Wall marked the end of Pink Floyd as the '60s and '70s knew it. Now the band's second-best-selling record has been remastered and released in two deluxe packages, and you could win a copy. The seven-disc The Wall Immersion Box Set ($120 retail) features excerpts from Roger Waters and David Gilmour's demos, plus previously unheard recordings of "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1," a DVD containing the documentary Behind The Wall and more. The four-disc The Wall Experience Version ($28) downsizes that bounty to the original double album, plus 35 demo tracks. The reissues are the final entry in EMI's yearlong "Why Pink Floyd?" campaign, a crate-digging experiment in repurposed content and finally released ephemera. That initiative began in earnest last September with the six-disc reissue of the band's 1973 masterwork Dark Side of the Moon, and continued in November with a five-disc Immersion box of the legendary quartet's meditative 1975 follow-up, Wish You Were Here. |
