Microsoft is turning its $100 "Smoked by Windows Phone" campaign into a $1,000 challenge at its retail stores across the US this weekend. Visitors can walk into a Microsoft Store between 9AM and 10PM local time to challenge Microsoft to a Windows Phone speed test — winners will walk away with a Hunger Games Special Edition PC and "losers" will be offered the opportunity to swap their current smartphone for a Windows Phone. There are 10 prizes per store each day.

(3) Using the People Hub to Stay in Touch with the People You Care About Most
(4) Updating Your Status Across Multiple Social Networks
(5) Local Scout ("Challenge").
(6) Pulling up a list of movie times from a local theatre (make sure you download an app like fandango or flixster. the rep used flixster in this case and I could have easily have won if I had downloaded the same app).
This Contest starts at 9:00 AM, local time, on March 22 2012, and ends at 10:00 PM, local time, on March 29, 2012 or whenever the ten (10) prizes per store have been exhausted, whatever comes first ("Entry Period").
If your smartphone completes the Challenge faster than the Microsoft sales associate using the Windows Phone you will be the winner. In the event of a tie between the Windows Phone and Your smartphone your smartphone will be considered the winner.

COSTA MESA STORE EXPERIENCE:
Wait time around 15 - 20 minutes. The promotional hours ended 1 hour before closing time.
Participants are asked to fill out 3 waivers, including 1 to consent to media coverage by Microsoft for marketing purposes, and 1 to consent to the recycling of your phone.
IMPORTANT: You should perform a FULL WIPE / FORMAT / FACTORY RESET on your old device before you hand it to them! You must give consent to allow the recycling firm to access the (software) contents of your phone!
Once they're ready for you to compete, you are asked to choose ONE of the FIVE modes of competition! They did not require specific app usage, so you could just use your browser. This store required participants to use WiFi if their device is capable.
If the phone you want is out of stock, this store offered a $10 gift card + a rain check. You keep your phone in the meantime, they will call you in when the phone you want is in stock.

Focus S. I mean, I would never just pick the phone with the highest resale value so I could flip it on eBay to pay for a Galaxy Nexus...would I?

BEWARE, I recommend you backup and then full wipe + factory reset your phone before you hand it over to them (don't forget your sim / mem card). In the recycling waiver, you give them the right to power on and inspect the contents (software) of your phone!

I was looking at reviews and theyre pretty similar spec-wise, though reviewers usually say that Focus S has better camera/video. Also the build quality is different. Focus S is plastic (so less durable) but much lighter, whereas the Titan is metal (more solid) and heavier. Battery life for Focus S is a tad better, but most smartphones only last 1-2 days anyways.
the Titan is 6oz. the Focus S is 4oz. that's a huge weight difference. the Focus S is typical build to other Samsungs. Titan feels like a tank compared to the Focus S.

-body of the Titan feels solid(metal), Samsung feels plasticky
-Titan weighs 6 oz, Focus S weighs 4 oz
-screen - Titan is 4.7 slcd vs 4.3 amoled. I think a lot of people prefer the amoled screen, but slcd gives a truer image. both are wvga, so focus s would have slightly higher ppi
-processor is very similar
price wise, about a wash. you can look at ebay or cl prices for an idea, but should be around 300-400.
on the recycling paperwork, they do ask for id check , but i wasn't checked for id in store. of course, this may depend on the store.

Ironically, the Focus S on display had MAJOR screen burn in. AMOLED wears quickly when you've got the phone on for 12 hours a day, everyday.

Hmmm closest store is 10 hours away. 4 tanks of gas round trip (about $160) for 2 brand new windows phones. decisions decisions......
They are doing the Radar and 710 for Tmobile right? I might take the trip lol
