What's wrong with this generation? "68 year old bullied by teenagers"

2,709 2,027 June 21, 2012 at 11:20 PM in Rant (3)
Jesus Christ, what's wrong with kids these days?

Karen Klein a 65 year old bus monitor is mercilessly bullied and verbally harassed by a group of middle schoolers on their way home from Athena Middle School in Greece, New York.
In the disturbing video, the children can be heard yelling at Klein, calling her an "ugly fat ass" and telling the widow, "you don't have a family because they all killed themselves because they don't want to be near you."

Here's the video link [youtube.com]. And it broke my heart.

Support has been pouring in and indiegogo [indiegogo.com] has collected over $440,000 for her!

Spare the rod...Spoil the child. I'd like to slap these kids silly.MadMadMad

This is why I don't want kids. I know my generation wasn't the best, but the following one, are complete little shits.

She can buy a freaking Audi R8 with all that money and run over all those little bastards, and I would just look the other way.

Heck..she could probably hire personal hitmen for every single one of them. Go to jail, pay the bail, and STILL have enough money to live an awesome life.
Every generation thinks they were the shit. The one before them are woefully out of touch and the one after will lead to the demise of civilization as we know it. It applies to level of respect, music, a lot of things. Look, I feel bad for this woman, and if I found out MY kid was doing this, he'd be punished. Not beaten with a stick like some of you sick farks want, but punished. A lack of discipline is not the same as a lack of physical violence. You can easily take away privileges and freedoms and achieve results that way.

But at the end of the day, you have to know what you're getting into when you take a job like that and be equipped to handle it. You shouldn't just "get" a job because you used to do another job and you don't want to retire. You should be qualified to do said job. This woman was woefully unqualified to control these kids, and that was her job! If you're not an alpha dog, you will get eaten alive. There is a social aspect to dealing with children. They are like animals. You can't show fear. This woman was poorly equipped to deal with children, that's all. Again, that doesn't make it ok, but not being ok does not mean that I'm shocked or that I wouldn't have expected it.

Huh That doesn't make sense in this case. She was a bus driver for decades.

Bus driver and bus monitor aren't really the same thing. For the most part kids understand that a bus driver is there to drive the bus, and that's what they do. But the bus MONITOR is there to control them, and you expect them never to push back at that?

Did you ride the Short Bus to school Scratchhead

Most of those have Bus Monitor's on them, normally regular school buses do not, at least where we live. It's the Sped kids that have Bus Monitor's - a/k/a Short Bus bulb

Our District's take this shit seriously and a kid can be suspended from taking the bus, a major inconvenience for working parents nod

No, I'm saying that wouldn't be as big a target. I'm saying that you have to have a different skillset to be a monitor than you do to be a driver. Try to keep up.

but what about the backside.

Not even really knowing what these 'yellow buses' are since we never had them in any UK school system. I am simply taking the words at their semantic level. Arent they supposed to make sure the kids arent causing trouble and potentially distracting the bus driver.

Secondly isnt this a paid position ? Yes kids can be mean and heartless but she was being paid to keep them under control and obviously wasn't doing her job. If you cant take verbal insults would you really take a job on a school bus anyway. It would be like a vegan working at Mcdonalds and complaining about handling burgers.
I agree...the kids were stupid twits...but she should have been doing her job...which was to keep those kids in line and threaten them with loss of bus priveleges and possibly suspension if they didn't shut up and behave themselves...it's her job to keep them inline...

She basically got rewarded for not being able to do her job properly.

"It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who follow may have clean earth to till. " - J.R.R Tolkein.

Obviously there has been a failure in parenting here.
What happened can't be justified by saying that it's HER fault that she wasn't able to control the kids. The kids shouldn't have been behaving like that in the first place.

I was raised to respect my elders, and though we did some crazy shit when we were in school, we would never do something like this. It was simply unimaginable.

But where I come from, teachers and parents are allowed to punish students. If you didn't do your homework, did something wrong, were disrespectful, you got punished. And I'm talking about corporal punishment here. From getting hit on the knuckles to getting whipped on the butt.

Can you imagine the kind of backlash there would have been against this woman if she had slapped the kid and put him in his place? But you're not allowed to even touch the kids in America. Otherwise bad things happen to you. She'd have lost her job. There would have been an investigation and everyone would have said she wasn't fit to be a monitor.

Different people have various levels of tolerance. Who knows what she was going through? But there is NOTHING in this world that can justify telling a woman who's son committed suicide "your family killed themselves because they didn't want to be with you"

Children these days grow up feeling that they can do anything. There is a huge failure in parenting if children are under the impression that being disrespectful is okay.
When I was a kid, I was punished when I did something wrong. These kids are not.
Spare the rod, spoil the child.

On a side note- the collection for Karen has reached $480,000. God does indeed work in mysterious ways.

When I went to school the bus driver was the bus monitor too and damn were they harsh! If you weren't well behaved and nice, you were in the biggest shit of all time. They didn't take any crap and they would stop the bus and write you up if you didn't listen.

If she was a bus driver during those times then she should have known how to deal with kids...obvously she learned nothing driving the bus...because all the good bus drivers know how to handle the kids.

My bus drivers just drove the bus. Once you got past that white line, it was like the wild west.
