That's how my great uncle used to do it to hogs...
I'd say that was pretty much the process, but he didn't use iodine. He has a lot of medical supplies that he can get his hands on as a farmer. He also used a local pain killer since it was a ram. When they are young it doesn't so much matter, but it's cruel to put them in that much pain as an adult.
