Keep in Mind: This rate is not available for refinancing of an existing PenFed loan.
FYI : If you get their loan, the insurance requirement is 500 deductible for the car that is being financed. At least when I got their loan a year ago. So check it out.
9/8/12: PenFed sent me an email saying cars with more than 100k are only eligible for 24 month loans.
9/9/12: Follow-up phone call confirmed that >100k can be no longer than 24 months. Mileage over 125k is not eligible for a loan.

Is there any credit score limit to get this rate?
I'm wondering how much will be the rate if the score is around 750?
My score is around 750. I applied for a penfed auto loan 3 weeks ago when the rate was still 1.99. I requested a loan for 25k. I was approved within 5 minutes. I chose to save the loan for later. A few days later, I received a check for 25k, to be filled out at the time of purchase. The check was good till September 15th. Turned out, I found the truck I wanted online and called the dealer and made an offer on 7/15. I took delivery of the truck on Sat 7/28. The check was posted by the dealer on 8/2 which lowered my loan rate to 1.49. I love it when a plan comes together.
What are the chances that I qualify if I am trying to refinance my first car purchase? credit score low 700. I'm at 11% right now with about 8k left. org. 12k. have about 48 months left.
I got screwed by Hyundai 2 days ago on my loan. I was looking to quickly go to this to go from 5.25% over 75 months to this at 60. I paid the 25 dollars to get set up and now it won't let me finance. Why can't I see if I'm approved for the loan THEN charge the membership?
The answer to your question is simply b/c you have to be a member first BEFORE you can apply for an auto loan through Penfed. So therefore, there is no way to find out if you would be approved without first being a member, which is why you have to pay the membership fee in order to become a member, and then you are allowed to apply for a loan and other services they offer. You have to be a member in order to take advantage of their products.
Maybe, but it's a record against the dealer. The balloon payment agreement wasn't oral, so at least there's proof that the dealer is getting buyers into "creative financing" agreements. The poster probably doesn't have the resources (or even the evidence) to fight it, but the state has a lot more authority than someone like the BBB. You could also try the local media "investigative reporters" or whoever would get it on the air--this always seems to work here. The dealers will come out and say something like "we always adhere to the law... but we reviewed this particular situation and agreed to blah blah blah." You're right though, and I don't know what they'd be able to do since he already refinanced out of that lender.
Bottom line: dealers (and military recruiters) lie. That's their job.
You should be more careful in the future with your words. I'm an Air Force recruiter and I guarantee I have never lied to any applicant I've come across. My recruiter never lied to me when I joined 10 years ago and I'm still in,. I chose to become a recruiter b/c I love the Air Force and want to help other young people see the opportunities that are available. If I felt my recruiter lied, I would be bitter and certainly wouldn't be recruiting others to join but instead them tell to stay far away. That obviously isn't the case here. Hell, we're the Air Force. We don't have to lie, period! We have people beating down our doors (maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit) to join. Therefore, we don't have to lie to anyone. Our applicants greatly outweigh the number of jobs we have available. This means the qualifications to join have increased and become more competitive than it was years ago. I have to turn a lot of people away b/c they just don't meet the qualifications we are looking for. I have no doubt some recruiters in the military lie, just like all humans in every profession. But to make a generalization that all recruiters lie is an uneducated move on your part.
applied, application is being reviewed...called and asked how long they said it's with a financial officer now and i should get an answer within a few hrs

Hey, sorry I touched a nerve, and while I don't want to derail the topic, consider yourself fortunate that your recruiter was honest. This was not the case in my experience in the mid-nineties, when the economy was booming and all the military branches (except the Marines) were doing whatever it took to get people in. I watched many classmates in high school get reeled in and become disenfranchised (to be fair, most were Army recruits, and "bitter" is too strong a word--they did their duty). It was one Air Force recruiter in particular who ultimately kept me from enlisting in the AF, and in retrospect, that worked out for the best for me anyway. The economy hasn't been this bad since the late seventies, shortly after the draft was discontinued, so recruiting is easier and retention has never been higher. If history is a guide, the pressure to meet recruiting quotas at any cost will resume when the economy improves. I hope the high standard of integrity your colleagues and leaders profess doesn't fall apart when that happens.
Thanks for doing your part and for your service. If you really never have misled any recruit or potential recruit, and the same is true for most of your colleagues, times certainly have changed. My message is simply caveat emptor, which applies to recruiters as well as car dealers.

waste of time. everything was oral. the dealer would give a very different version of what his people told the buyer.
