To unlock your Galaxy S3 OR NOTE 2:

Just dial the following keys *#197328640#

Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!!

And if ATT give you unlock code and if it doesnt work, then you need to go back to 4.1.1 using Odin and then use the above options to unlock and then go back to 4.1.2.





FROM THE OP:

Those who are having trouble.

1) PLUG IN THE FOREIGN SIM CSED FIRST

2) BOOT up the phone with the different sim card, then it will ask for unlock code. CLICK DISMISS

3) Then perform the 6 step process in post #1

4) be sure to WAIT EXACTLY where it says wait 30 sec, and wait 1min then reboot

---I have better success with the foreign sim in FIRST and unlocking with the foreign sim inside the phone.

To get data to work on your FOREIGN SIM, you must change the APN setting. Google for your carrier's APN setting and change that. This works ONLY for GSM phones, i.e. phones on AT&T, T-Mobile, or most international carrier. This will NOT work on CDMA/TDMA phones, specifically phones from Verizon or Sprint. Some Verizon phones use SIM cards for 4G data, and it may be possible to use those phones with GSM networks, but I am not sure of that. -hallowmann
  • Does this mean I can use it outside the country without paying any extra service fees?
You have to pay for service no matter where you go, but if you go to another country, rather than being forced to use your AT&T SIM card with international roaming, you can buy a prepaid SIM card from the country you are traveling to. You would have to switch the SIM cards and then you can use your unlocked phone on the international service plan. -hallowmann
  • What does "GSM' mean in the original post?
GSM refers to use "Global System for Mobile communications". This is for mobile devices that use SIM cards for voice, specifically AT&T and T-Mobile devices in the US, and almost all devices every else in the world. -hallowmann
  • Does unlocking the phone mean that I am no longer under my contract? Will I still have to pay my service provider the monthly service fee? What about Early Termination Fee (ETF)?
Unlocking the phone deals ONLY with the phone, not with your service. You will still have the service and you will still either have to pay the monthly fees or pay the early termination fee, whether you have the phone or not. Again, unlocking the phone does NOTHING to the contract. The contract is for service, it has nothing to do with the phone. The phone is yours. You could sell the phone and you'd still have to pay your voice and data service. -hallowmann
  • Does this work on the Samsung Galaxy S2? Other GSM phones?
It doesn't work on the S2, but if bought the phone (or any GSM phone) from AT&T or T-Mobile and you've had your phone for something like 90 days or 6 months (not sure which) with service, you can call them up and say you are going overseas and need to unlock your phone for use there. They should give/email you the SIM unlock code for your phone, which you would need to put in when you insert another network's SIM into your phone. If they give you trouble, just keep pressing that you may go to areas that don't have their coverage and need other options. They should/will give it to you. -hallowmann[LIST]

I used to work at a tech place but wasn't in the biz of repairing phones but we could do it and have done some for friends...just wasnt our bread and butter...

there is nothing wrong if we didnt know about it. it wasn't on national news.

most of us did not know anything about this until i brought this bill up to them. some of us heard about it but wasn't sure what it was. the rest of us were too blind to see it. when i called my friends and competitors asking for details, most of them didn't even know this bill existed and what needed to be done on our business standpoint.

so i dont see anything wrong with us if our unlocker providers did not provide us any info and what actions needed to be taken. you can blame on me all you want. but on the very last day when i called in ATT to unlock some of our customers phones, ATT unlocking department had no idea what i was talking about when i told him about this new law. Even ATT unlocking department wasn't aware of it or told their employers about it. so i dont see that i missed anything here.

Dude, point is, if you're gonna be running a business of Cellphone repairs, or if i take my own cellphone to get repaired, people expect to have the workers knowledgeable about the mobile tech industry, and not just following some pictured how-to instructions for repairing phones.

I know no one told you, but if you're in the business of repairing phones, the you have to atleast be into that, right? and practically every tech website had this news up, i ran into it SO much for other tech related info...

So basically, if you count on some subscription website, or other services to be telling you about mobile tech news, you're doing it wrong, and shame on you, you should be looking stuff up like this yourself. I would be baffled and would probably laugh (not on purpose) if I took my phone into your store for servicing or repair, and you didn't even know about this law... I shouldn't be more in touch with mobile tech news/info than the guy im paying to fix my mobile tech... shame on you sir shake head

hey, you can call name all you want. but i am not ashame for not knowing about this before. as i said earlier, most of my competitors or friends did not know about this when i asked them. some of them heard about it but did not know exactly what it was and what needed to be done.

i dont know if you read my post earlier. it's not only our cellphone repairs business, even ATT unlock department had no idea what i told them. NO IDEA, let alone "heard" about it.

and you believed what ATT's unlocking dept. innocently told you that they didn't know? EEK!

you probably talked to a tier 1 tech or something but supervisors for sure know about this...

ATT in my mind was responsible for this anyway....they lobbied and got what they want...

selling a product is one thing...repairing a product is another...

the former takes almost no skill....the latter needs a little thinking, if not a whole lot...and certainly gives a company advantage if they knew stuff others don't....

I have an unlocked T Mobile Galaxy S 3 which suddenly stopped working. It displays "searching" on its screen non stop, when I try to make a call it says "not registered on network" Tryed to fix this problem by the method above, did't work. Please HELP me.

if I take my whizbang gadget for repair, I expect a techie who is knowledgeable in his field. If he is ranting on the interpretation of a law, then obviously he is not a techie I am interested dealing with. I would run out of his shop and deal with only those that could tell me the details of my technical problems. I want him to have his source of repairs including how-to instruction and pictures and provide me with the advice how to best repair my technical problem.

I have a galaxt s3 and the galaxy note 2 and I need them both unlocked but I dont understand the proper way to do it so can u please give me a better break down I am in the US so I dont have a forn sims card please help me they are AT&T phones but i wish to use the on tmobile please help [
