To update the programs once installed: Change system date to before 10/01/2011, run Adobe updater, download/install updates, then change system date back to current

Adobe official statement, sounds like they pretend nothing has happened.

"Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers. While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.

Windows 8 Compatibility Issues: If your computer is running Windows 8 and you're having trouble installing CS2 you may want to try downloading a program called VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) from Oracle (it's free). This software is designed to allow you to run Windows XP programs in a virtual environment on a Windows 7 machine but apparently it also works with Windows 8.

Try this link for the actual walkthrough described in the Ubegizmo web site - http://lifehacker.com/5965889/how...-windows-8. The instructions worked for me and I could do the XP and Photoshop install.

If you are having the error message, "Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit". During installation put c:\progra~2\adobe instead of c:\program files\adobe. This worked for me for both Vista, Windows 7 & Windows. Hope it helps you!


I've ran this since its release on windows vista and 7 both 32 and 64 bit machines without issues and did not use any compatibility modes.

Also, if you're running Windows 8 Pro (x64 version), you can use Hyper-V, the virtualization engine built native into Windows: http://winsupersite.com/article/windows8/windows-8-feature-focus-client-hyperv-142889 Still need to get your hands on an XP image (if that's what you want).

Mac OSX 10.8: Tries to install and fails. Not sure about prior Mac OSX versions. (note: you need to use a MacOs that can run the powerpc emulator Rosetta. Mountain Lion won't work, since Apple dropped the emulation). However, standalone Acrobat Pro 8 does work in Mountain Lion because it includes the Intel binaries.

I only grabbed a copy of the CS2 Photoshop installer instead of the whole suite. It installed fine in Win 7 (via Run As > Admin) and never asked for a serial.

If you have a "Disk 2 error" installing the Suite - clearpants

Quote : Solution 2: Edit the installation path. Edit the installation path, and then install the application files to that folder. In the installer wizard, type [X]:\Progra~2\Adobe for the installation path. Your Adobe Creative Suite applications will be installed to Program Files (x86)\Adobe. Resume the installation.

The reason being: Progra~2 would be the short path name (seen by doing a dir /x in a command prompt).
I can verify that this does work and it's now installing in my VM.

(2) Acrobat 8 Professional quirks to be aware of - zero2dash
1) You need to right-click and "run as administrator" in Win7 because it will not trigger the UAC prompt on it's own and you'll get an error when extracting.
2) If you're running x64 bit, when it asks for "Files Needed" box when it looks for the AdobePDF.dll file....click Browse, and then use the "Up one level" folder and it's in AMD64\ADOBEPDF.DLL

3) If on windows 7 and you get an error that you donot have permissions to the common files directory use the methos outlined to take ownership of the directory and give permissions to your login id - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-s...main_Vista
