T-Mobile $5/month 5GB Data Plan for Grandfathered/Classic Users

I was also offered this plan when my contract end date was approaching.

It honestly just doesn't make sense to me. I was currently paying $10/month for Internet on a classic plan. Upgrading to galaxy s3 or newer smartphone would cost me $20/month, and when I balked at that, that is when they offered me the bridge to value. HOWEVER,the plan itself makes no sense. It does not allow you to upgrade phones. Once you upgrade your phone you're still required to pay $20/month. Migrating to a value plan not only lowered my monthly voice plan but also my texting plan. On a bridge to value they are keeping you from upgrading phones AND preventing you from realizing true value plan savings.

For comparison I was paying $120/month after taxes for 4-line family plan 1000 minutes, text, and Internet on two lines. On a value plan I'm now paying $85 for 1000 minutes, text, and Internet in 4 lines. A bridge to value plan would have cost me $110/month for only two lines of Internet, with the same disadvantage as a value plan in that you can't upgrade phones.

The point is I don't want to leave my Grandfathered plan. I just want to pay a lot less for internet (currently not in any internet plan).

how do you get $85/mon pricing? as 1000 min ($50) , text ($10), add-line * 2 (2*5 = $10), web * 4 (4 * 5 = $20) which is for 200mb data of course. so this come out to be $90 before tax.
unless u have loyal $10 discount n your add-line are free till Jan-2014, in that case. $70 before tax then.

Hmm, I have the old $5.99 T-Zones which only works on some smartphones, so I've been limited when choosing phones without jumping up to a pricier data plan. I wonder if it's worth the risk of giving up my grandfathered unlimited $5.99 plan. I don't plan on getting subsidized phone upgrades, so (hopefully) that would keep me from losing the $5 plan if I did get it. As long as it works with any phone OS, it might be worth it to open up my phone options, as I've never even come close to using 5GB of data.

I called T-Mobile and was told that I am not eligible for this Bridge to Value plan since my contract only ends in June 2013. The CSR was trying to extend my contract by offering $10/month discount for 12 months and 1 month free (to stay in classic) or $10/month discount for 12 months (to switch to value plan). Both will extend my contract for 2 more years.

I'm currently on the classic 1000 minute plan ($60/month) with unlimited texting on all lines for $20/month. with 4 lines (2 additional lines are $10/month each). 2 lines have 200MB of data @ $10/month. There is also a random $5 off a month. So before tax my monthly total is $120.

I called to add 5GB for $5 a month on a line that has never had data before and the CSR said he couldn't add it. Instead he offered me $100 for 2 lines with 2GB unlimited data, 2 additional lines for $5 each. Data on 3rd line would be $10 for 2GB unlimited, then he offered $10 off for 24 months. Thats $110 total.

Is it worth trying to stay off contract and get 5GB of data added onto the 3rd line of my current plan?

Would it work for people who are already on a family plan 1000 mins and 2 GB for $20.... I renewed the contract only last August

Does not work on grandfathered plans. Had to call three times, but no luck. Also was told that i could switch over to classic plan and get it, but there is a 200 dollar charge to do that. I am under a contract.

I was following the same howardforums.com thread yesterday but was curious if tivoman's plan was really the same as yours and another guy who did not get throttled. This is solely based on the name of your data plan compared to tivoman. Also, if it does not force you to switch, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of BTV? I hope they are not deceiving us.

So if I buy an S3 through a person (Craigslist) for T-Mobile I can avoid paying $20/month through their upgrade and only pay $5/month through this offer?

I understand that I would be paying more for the phone than free through T-Mobile, but I'm wondering if that would work.

I upgraded to an s3 and contract plan 2 months ago and had to get unlimited everything to be eligible for a free s3 after rebates. After I received my s3, I was able to downgrade all my lines to limited features such as $20 5gb data instead of $30 unlimited.

Now, Will this work for reducing the /$20 5gb to $5?

I was wondering if someone could help me, so we have a grandfathered plan and we've been contract free for about 2 years and my dad doesn't want to get locked into a 2 yr contract. Is it possible to get this added to the lines on our plan without signing a 2 yr contract? My parents have the 200mb plan and my brother and I have the grandfathered tzones plans. Any help is appreciated

i am in the same boat except 3 of my 4 lines have 200mb data @ 10 dollars per month, and the fourth line has 5 gb preferred for 20 per month - i was hoping to change all four data packages to the 5 per month package - did the CSR say that they could change the data on the lines with existing data?
