Hello everyone,
Recently, some people over at Howardforums on grandfathered/classic plans have discovered that their $20/month 5GB Preferred Android Web data plan was replaced with a $5/month 5GB "Pref Android Web Reduced" data plan. Details are as follows:
-$5/month for 5GB. Throttles after 5GB although some users have reported no throttling at all.
-Only works for Grandfathered and Classic plans, NOT Value plans.
-Get by calling 611 on your T-mobile phone and saying "cancel" at the prompt to reach the retentions/loyalty department.
-Loyalty CSR called it "Bridge to Value Preferred Web" and described it as a way of giving classic plan members a sample of Value cost savings.
-Despite the name, it does not require you to switch to Value at anytime, nor was I forced to extend my contract.
-This reduced data plan is not eligible as a choice for getting an upgraded smartphones. Upgrading a line with the $5 plan will change the line back to the $20 plan. It's not clear whether you add the $5 data plan on a line that has upgraded recently.
-This is not like T-zones/Web2Go in that it WILL work with any Android phone. I don't know about other types of phones.

3 lines on myFaves + 1000 minutes + 2gigs of data on all 3 lines
would it help me to upgrade to this?
My phone call just saved me around $3000! My monthly savings came out to be about $119/month + 1 month credit ($197).
Old:
$197 - 5 lines
1500 minutes = $100
unlimited nights, weekends, mobile to mobile, and family texting
+ 3 lines = $10x3
2 lines of truly unlimited data. = $60
+ tax
- promo 15%
New:
$78 - 4 lines
1000 minutes = $55
+ 2 lines = $0/$5x2 = $0/$10
unlimited nights, weekends, mobile to mobile, and family texting = $15
3 lines of truly unlimited data. = $5 x 3 = $15
+ tax
- promo 15%
a little thing they told me too (not sure if they'll reneg) but the $5 rate will lock. as in even after your 2 year is up, as long as you dont upgrade, they won't increase your data plan rate. xD I accidentally cancelled it on 1 of my 4 lines for my family. haha
anyone know why it would be bad to share the source code freely?
1 - upgraded/extended contract within last 2 months
2 - currently having more than 2GB data plan
3 - be under Classic plan
Very different from what some other SDs are saying as well...
And she would not transfer me to loyalties department and tried to refrain me from contacting that department...

I'm not complaining! lol.
Called and was told this is for those who have less than 6 months left in their contract.
Is that true?
they didn't offer anything even I requested that I was looking for to bring my monthly cost down.
Currently:
3 lines (1 @ full upgrade eligible, 2 @ 9 months since last subsidized upgrade)
Family 700+1 Additional line+Family Texting+2 Pref Web (5GB)+1 200MB web-$10 loyalty discount (probably expires in a few months, I don't recall) = $120/mo
Offered:
Classic 1000+1 Additional line+3 Bridge to Value (2GB) = $100
This includes a 12 mo discount of $5/mo for the additional line, so I guess it'll go up to $105 in 2014.
Also, I was given an Unlimited Bridge to Value offer of $10/line. I think 2GB would suffice for my phones though.
EDIT: Reading above, seems strange that she told me the $5/mo Bridge to Value was 2GB when it's reported as 5GB in the first post. Will clarify that when she calls back on Tuesday.
This is all before the 10% corporate discount that I get.
The rep did confirm that I will lose the bridge to value plan if I use a phone upgrade.
But, she offered me an S3 for $180, Nexus 4 for $150 or One S for $130 WITHOUT using my upgrade.
Because of that, I'd be in place to move to a value plan without penalty in 9 months.
This something I should proceed with?
One other concern is that my kids are going to want the iphone. Seems like I might have to be on a value plan in order to get an iphone. I know there's nothing definite, but signs are looking like that might be the case. Loyalty has always stepped up for me though, so I wouldn't be shocked if there's a way around that.
Also, is it worth getting the S3 for $180 without using an upgrade vs. negotiating something better (hasn't it been free with some sales?) and using the upgrade and not worrying about getting over to the value plan later on or paying the penalty to move to the value plan?
And what happens when I do go to value? I basically pay the same as what I'd pay with this Classic offer, except I have to pay for my phones? If the phones are effectively worth $20/mo each, maybe I am better just staying on the Family plan I have now and continuing to get subsidized upgrades, no? When I get 3 new phones a year from now, won't I then be paying $160/mo on the Classic plan, when I could have received 3 subsidized phones and still be paying the $120/mo that I'm paying now? I'm all assuming about the same money down for a phone as well.
Not sure I understand how the value plan is good for me. I must be missing something.
Appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

More concerned about the plan options. Would like some feedback on that part.

she also said we can give you $10 off a month for 6 months without me even asking for it.
