Using Walmart App on Phone to Find AMMO

I've been using the Walmart app on my android phone for a good 3-4 weeks now with excellent results. Aquired good amount of 22lrs, 9mm, 380, 7.62 and 223 rounds during that time. Luckly I have 13 walmarts in my city and was able to hit the walmarts that have the ammo in stock.

You can find the free walmart app on android market or itunes. And these are what I learned so far while using it.

1. When it shows the ammo is in stock, it means several things. As soon as the ammo is scanned at the main warehouse, it shows its in stock. That means the ammo is anywhere from the main warehouse, on a truck and being still transported to your walmart. Or, it's sitting in the back of the stockroom at your walmart (in pallets) and not taken out to the floors yet. Or, shady employees are hiding it so they can buy it later.

2. Walmart is the most efficient and has the most advance inventory management in the world. If the employees are telling you different about the app, then they are misinformed or wrong. There are too many coincidence where I went to the walmarts that showed "in stock" and it was there. And too many times, after I buy the last box, 10-30 mins later, it shows "out of stock".

The other day, I went to one of the walmarts early to pick up some 22lrs that shows in stock early in the morning. Was told by the worker there that they didn't get any shipment in that morning. I stated otherwise...... manager even came to me and stated the same thing. Instead of arguing, I left to hit up other walmarts. Came back 1 hr later (app still showing its in stock), sure enough........ after I left, 20 mins later, they brought out that night's ammo shipment. Same again with walmart #2. Worker and manager there swore there was no shipment. But according to the app, the ammo that shows "in stock". changed to "out of stock" by 10am.

3. When it shows "limited stock", it means there are only 1-3 boxes left.

4. Find out when your walmart start selling their ammo. Usually the ammo shipment arrives in the evening and they wont start selling it until the morning. Mine is usually around 7-8am. Every walmart runs different. Some have 3 box limit, some has 1 box limit, some open at 7am, some sell ammo all night. I usually check the inventories at night and plan which walmart to hit in the mornings. Usually the app gets really busy around 6-8am and might crash.

5. The people I've been telling to about the walmart app been getting really lucky. Sure beats waiting in huge lines at bass pro shop or academy. The lines are usually sparse here since not alot know about the app.

****************************************************************************************************************************

Happen to stumble on a gold mine at glockforum.com forum. Using the Walmart app to scan barcodes off ammo boxes to search certain ammo that is not showing up on the usual search. So naturally they saved the pics of the barcodes. Now I can search for tulammo for 9mm.

So one WM has showed stock for the past few days on some 50packs of .22 ammo and my wife went last night at 5pm to check on her way home from work. Guy in sporting goods said they had none and then said the inventory is off when my wife said her phone shows stock. She went to customer service and their computer showed 40 in the back. Talked to store manager who said they sell them at 7am. But, now at 11am they're still showing In Stock. What's the deal?
I assume you are talking about the Federal 22lr 50 count boxes. About a month ago, the Walmarts got in 500 round bricks that had 10 50 round boxes inside. They sold them in boxes of 500 and I think they were supposed to break them open and sell the 50 round packs. Inventory has shown in stock for the 50 round boxes since then.

So, I noticed the other day the Walmart Android App requested an update, so I expected they "fixed the glitch" on stock checking. I left the app alone (not updating it) and most items were showing OOS around me, but a few report "Inventory stock unavailable".

I made a backup of my app in Titanium Backup and went ahead and updated the Walmart app. Still showing the same stock status which is "Inventory stock unavailable." I suspect this means there will be SOMETHING at my local store tomorrow, but unfortunately, I won't be able to check.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Anyone know if the update alters the inventory check? The earlier version has been working for me up until last weekend. Now all it shows is OOS anytime of day at every walmart in my hood. Will the update 'fix' this report or block the showing of ammo in stock?

Some people are having issues. We are not. The app works 100% flawless for us. You have to monitor the inventory levels daily at the minimum. We have several deals with the people that work and we drop them some cash for the heads up Smilie. Getting ammo at Wally Worlds is pretty easy. We can get several thousand rounds per week, every week. I believe the first week we was able to pick up over 10k rounds! Now we only go for the bulk party packs!

I've noticed the stores that say In Stock for stuff that they don't have now show Stock Information Unavailable. I think they're trying to resync their stock numbers with the inventory numbers. Lots and lots of theft and loss at Walmart.

Absolutely an incorrect statement. Their inventory is accurate and real time. The app posts as updates are forced to their site(s) and servers. Migration through the network happens in minutes. To be realistic I have watched ammo being purchased and see the inventory levels change. We understand how their inventory program works, we also have our own litle tool that allows raw data to be parsed to a spreadsheet of sorts. We see live data. The phone apps work well. Speaking of theft, Ammo theft at Walmarts is really nonexistant. They watch high dollar items and ammo closely. If you know of ammo getting stolen from a Walmart I will have to assume several people are involved.

Except for one thing... If an employee steals 5 boxes of ammo how does the accurate, real time inventory system know that it was stolen? Or lost somewhere in the back? Or hidden by employees?

standard protocol for Ammo at Walmart is it stays locked up and a managers releases it to the clerk on duty. Inventory on ammo is taken at least once a day. This is for all ammo that is not 22 or shotgun (since these arrive via normal WM trucks) other ammo arrives by private carrier. It is difficult to steal ammo from WM unless several employees are in on it. So it would take a manager or assitant manager to successfully get away with it.

Seriously? You think standard protocol at WM is adhered to? Have you ever had any contact with the clowns that work there? They're not exactly pillars of society.

Inventory on ammo is not taken once a day. If that were true my stores that always show in stock would change to OOS within a day.

Where do you get your info from? The internet?

Well inventory is spot on. Maybe it's where you live? I have actually no problem getting 3-5 thousand rounds a week using the app. Inventory is accurate. Like I said unless several WM employees are in on the scam then then it is extremely hard to get away with it (at least more than once or twice). Inventory IS taken once a day, the manager or assistant managers do a recount to verify!

Does anyone have UPC scans of any 38 special ammo? I can't find any listed on their site and all the barcodes I scanned from the prices at walmart just gave me a "no results."

Maybe it's where you live? 3-5 thousand rounds a week is completely unheard of. Where do you live? Please say Colorado!

My store just says "inventory stock unavailable" for everything they carry. Do they seriously not keep inventory here or is this likely a temporary thing? It's said that for everything they carry since I installed the app.
