I went to my store last night since I was nearby and asked while I was there. Pretty much sounded YMMV but at least the guy I talked to was like "I realty don't care what the coupon is, I will make it work"

I had this error as well but found out how to deal with it.

First, go and select the $200+ product.

Second, add the coupon. After you type the coupon number in and press enter you are brought to another page. On that page, you MUST click on "Add Free Item".

If not, it keeps giving you that error which I kept getting.

But when I clicked on that button, it worked.

Office Depot codes generally are non-unique -- valid once per account not just once -- so no need to limit access to the codes.
