T5GMHMNZ used. Unfortunately, the email I received about code T5GMHMNZ didn't state it was for 50 cents off, and I presumed it was a free code. But I see here it does state 50 cents.
So for anyone who received email updates, make sure you return here to see the full post :-) |

Has anyone Rented TAKEN 2 on blu-ray RECENTLY?
Hey, i was just wondering... I rented Taken 2 (BLU-RAY) a few weeks back. And myself along with, too many to count, people reported they couldn't get the Redbox rentals to play on any of their machines. I personally tried it in a PS3, a two different Sony BR stand alone players, and two Samsung HTIB's failed to read on any of them. ...Had the same problem months back with the Artist (Blu-ray)ANYWAY, just wondering if they ever sent out replacement discs or if someone has recently rented it. For all the time I spend asking the question & not getting a response on facebook I should just rent the DVD. |

Wondering if you could provide a tad more information. Model of the BDP player & if you know more specifically the date. I must have posted it in another thread, but I believe I and others rented it on / near the generic Valentines day code. Oh well, I'll give it another go either way. |

Anyway, yes the PS3, the Sony's BR players & the Samsung HTIB are all up to date with firmware. If it's one device it's usually the issue, something with the damnable copy protection not playing right with the device. But this was 5 devices from me & literally 100's more reports on the redbox facebook page in that day or two when someone mentioned others had the same issue & I should check it out. I'm confident the discs were a bad copy. I got into reading an interesting thread on AVS forum about how seemingly to punish people like me, who 99% of the time rent only, some movie studios are providing a less stellar/less pristine usually 25GB Blu-ray version of the movie instead of the original 50GB versions. Apparently, the thought process behind the studio "geniuses" that came up with that one is that if people really like the movie they will pay to see the higher quality version & get the extras that some of these rental only discs have. But.... Unless you know that going in, what is the average movie renter to think? Um, hey this movie looks like $#i+, glad I didn't blow $12-$18 bux on buying it. ![]() P.S. I discretely marked the rental disc so I'd know if I rented the same one again. Last edited by Bdubslawman; 03-11-2013 at 07:17 PM.. |

Wow, that's news to me that some studios are providing lower quality discs for rental than what's available for purchase. I thought the only thing they were doing to punish movie renters vs. buyers was to not have any extras on the rental discs. Finally, I wonder if RB worked it out with these companies that they would pay a % of their revenue from a particular studio's movies as opposed a flat-fee. In other words, if you rent a movie for only $0.50 instead of $1.00, perhaps RB only pays Sony (for example) a set % of the 50 cents vs. a buck? That would make more sense to me. |
