Bank of America Privacy Assist - FULL Refund for YEARS of Service

+72 Deal Score

What's up guys. This is my first Slickdeal and I hope it's considered a Slickdeal; I really felt it was.

For those of you that have Bank of America's Privacy Assist credit monitoring service, be aware that they recently had a massive lawsuit against them that is forcing them to refund $700M+ to Privacy Assist customers. Note: If you have ever had any of their other "credit monitoring" services, you should be eligible for a refund as well.

I found this out last night when I decided to cancel the service (I was looking for ways to save $10/month here and there) and Google'd for their number.

Canceling was very easy and all I did was mention that I read about a recent lawsuit filed against them and asked if I was entitled to any refund. The kind lady informed me that I would be refunded for my full 74 months of service ($12.99/month, $961.26 total refund). It hasn't hit my account yet but I was in shock.

Just some info for SD members
There are many class suits that may you have missed out on if you did not know about them.
BOA has about 4.
Some I have been compensated for: Naked Juice, Kashi Cereal, TurboTax, Honeywell, Popchips, Traders Joe's, Emergen-C....
There are 100's of others going on.
I have got checks from these as well as many free products. (Like 16 bags of Alexia French Fries)
Some suit do not require any proof of purchase, some pay out better with proof.
I am signed up with a site (I have no affiliation, they have no referral program, just info for you guys)
IMO: Just found it to be the best and they seem to stay on top of every suit going on.
Sign up and get email updates of all current class suits.
You won't regret spending the time searching the site.
There is money in them dar classy suits!

I did absolutely nothing and called no one and was recently sent a check by these people for over $800. I honestly didn't even know I had ever signed up for the service.

I tried since I had it quite some time ago. Didn't work. Oh well.
I suggest you keep trying. Mention the recent lawsuit that orders BoA to issue refunds. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Ask for a supervisor if they insist that they are not aware of any lawsuits. Mention the consent order on Bank of America placed by the Consumer Protection Bureau.

Refer to this: http://files.consumerfinance.gov/...-order.pdf

File No. 2014-CFPB-0004

And if they still give you a hard time, kindly say you'll be contacting the Consumer Protection Bureau to have the issue resolved.

Ask your parents to look at one of their statements.

He might have, but he might have also made good use of the service over the years, therefore it being somewhat free. It's also unexpected cash he's come across Cool

I would call and tell them exactly that. You canceled a while back because you had no clue you were being charged for that service and you just read about the lawsuit that entitles you to a refund. I'm catching up with everything since these quoted posts above so bear with me!

I'm getting (or was at least told I'm getting) $961.26. That's 74 months of service, or 6 years + 2 months. So you should be entitled to the same.

I posted the number in the OP as well as a few posts down from OP.

This seems fishy; it doesn't seem like BoA are complying very well. They clearly didn't "complete" shit because I haven't received anything and had to call.

Oh. I thought the top number was a general number and your other post about a 'special' number was a different one. Thanks.

I just called and tried as well. I was charged about 12 or 13 dollars a month for years before I noticed and put an end to it. They told me that I didn't have privacy assist, and privacy assist had no record of me. They give me a different phone number for Credit Protection Plus which they said I had. Credit Protection Plus said that I had been informed and that there was a 30 day window to cancel the services, and since I didn't cancel I was automatically enrolled and the payments were legitimate and no refund. I was never told about any 30-day window for cancellation. They had made it sound like it was a complementary service.
Some BoA employee talks about shady practices here:
http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-823602
But all in all, apparently no "Privacy Assist" no refund.

Believe me. You both need to just push a little harder. Be assertive that you were told the first 30 days were complimentary and were never informed that you had to cancel within those 30 days. You need to sell the point that they make it a difficult process for the customer to cancel (no online cancellation request of any kind) and that the lawsuit covers exactly what you're complaining of.

According to the article about the lawsuit, the Credit Protection Plus plan should also fall under this Consumer Protection Bureau order.

Hate to be a broken record, I'm just trying to help!

Quote :
In selling identity protection products such as "Privacy Guard," "Privacy Source," and "Privacy Assist," the bank billed customers for the services without or before having the required authorization, the bureau said.

The bank improperly billed 1.5 million consumers about $459 million from October 2000 to September 2011, according to the bureau.

Also, from 2010 through 2012, Bank of America marketed two products, "Credit Protection Plus" and "Credit Protection Deluxe" that allowed customers to cancel some credit card debt if they lost their job or had some other hardships.

But the bureau said Bank of America deceived about 1.4 million customers into making about $268 million in payments by, among other things, improperly telling them the first 30 days of coverage were free or the benefits were greater than existed.
One can easily argue the last bit. You can simply say that the benefits the service provided you were nowhere near what they made it seem when they hooked you on. That, and the fact that it was (previously) a hassle to cancel.

If credit karma told you your score was 625 then you have no business buying a car.
It is well known the credit karma score is a FAKO score, this means it is based on the actual FICO but can vary quite a bit.

In my experience the CK score is always higher than the real deal.

Its a free service, if your going to complain then dont use it.
If you want a real credit score monthly for free sign up for the Discover IT card or Wal-Mart credit card.
I don't take kindly to your elitist attitude with one's shopping habits.

Plus, you post doesn't differ from my post much, which makes it seems as if you just wanted in insult me.

Please think before you type.

I'm not sure what qualifies you for the refund, but I just called and BoA said I wasn't on their "Impacted" list...

Not trying to be "elitist" but a 625 on creditkarma is generally considered poor.

If you didnt want judgement then you should not have posted your score.

You must have done something financially irresponsible to achieve such a score, but whatever.

I did say that you could acquire you FICO score from various credit cards and that in itself was pretty valuable info. You can also get your FICO from a Barclay mastercard.

Was on the phone with privacy assist then was transferred to another department who took all my info and looked and said they could not find me as a customer 'who mighy have been affected' and was unable to give me a refund. I then asked about what made a customer 'affected' and stated some of the info here. She said she would give me the number to the department that is giving out the checks but it was after business hours. Gonna call back later. Hopefully can get some funds back.
