Just won one of the grand prizes from Holiday Inn Celebrate Your Firsts! Strangely, I didn't have this one on my daily entry list but did enter a few times I remember, but fantastic that I won!

We are not mind readers--with 1000's of sweeps posted here, its anyones guess which one you are referring to. Assuming then just sent the gift card directly, that is borderline suspicious...most contests make you fill out paperwork first.

What are your plans for the rewards points...they have a ton of merchandise/gift cards, beyond of course the single night stay.

Honestly not sure. I'm definitely going to check out their gift cards. My initial thought was to convert them into another rewards program, but will have to see what they offer and who their partners are. I'm not too familiar with the PC program. Oddly enough, ePrize wanted me to verify my mailing address so they could "send my prize" which I thought was odd since they could just do it electronically, so it might be a while until I get those points Big Grin

I thought I replied to the post for the person who also won the Marlboro Sound of Gold $1000 prepaid gift card for car stereo installation. That is which prize I won and did receive paperwork for 1099 but it does not state what kind of card it will be. Don't really need a new car stereo so don't want to have to pay tax on something that might be useless or invaluable! If anyone has some insight please let me know.

Regardless, I would take it. Worst case scenario you end up with a gift card you don't want, but can probably sell. Best case scenario, it's a prepaid Visa. Either way it's a win-win; you'll still be able to get more out of it than you'd pay in taxes.

As an aside, I have to say I do get jealous sometimes of those that can enter the tobacco sweeps! They seem to offer the most prizes/odds. Although I guess the fact that I'll have a lessened chance of getting lung cancer, emphysema, and infertility is a decent consolation.

I would ask yourself can you afford to pay $300 in taxes (assuming a fairly avg tax bracket of 30%)...and secondly can you sell it for above that amount if you can't use it? To me that would be the the breaking point of it all. I would also add a 3rd criteria...how over priced are car stereos relative to other goods? I know things like jewelry can easily have 400-600% mark ups.
