Finished Slaughterhouse-Five and started Guns, Germs and Steel [amazon.com] which I thought would be semi-boring but it's actually already grabbed my attention. I hope the author can keep it! laugh out loud
I read that last year, it was good! Get's a bit repetitive towards the end, but its still a good read.

Reading Catch-22 now Whee

For the first time?

I'm so jealous if you are. That's on my annual list too! I heart that book so much. I couldn't get into Heller's second novel Something Happened but I love the hell out of Catch-22.

SNOWDEN! Whee

It is! I knew I should read it, but sometimes when I feel like I should do something then I can't make myself do it! laugh out loud My husband just re-read it and told me to give it a try.

Have you read Amy Hempel? I just finished her collection of short stories.....she is insanely amazing.

Haven't read Hempel, maybe I'll check her out. Thanks! Enjoy Heller - the dark humor of that book is wicked.

Oooh, sounds like one of my top 3, Raymond Carver.

Try Cathedral for starters. He only wrote short stories & one screenplay that got made into a movie ("Four Rooms"). One of his stories ("Popular Mechanics") is only like a page long. LOVE him so much.

Okay I'm definitely trying Hempel then. Thanks! Whee hug

I'm about 80% through with McCullough's "John Adams," which is absolutely phenomenal.

Finally finished Catch-22.....the holidays and health problems really got in the way of my reading. Of course as soon as I finished it I wanted to re-read it!

I started Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter last night.

Tibet: Culture on the Edge by Phil Borges

Mostly a picture book about people living in remote areas, what elevation they live at, how global warming and development is affecting their environment and way of life, and what they do for a living.
