NEW ROUND OF CHECKS DEC 2024

--------------------------------
Here's the (maybe improved for truthfulness) Dec 2024 email for people who claimed mitsubishi TVs on their claim form:

Dear (slickdealer),
Your claim was submitted for (slickdealer) in the CRT Indirect Purchaser Mitsubishi Electric Corp. Settlement (Case No. 4:17-cv-04067-JST). This claim has been approved and you are entitled to receive a settlement payment 9 years after filing in the paltry amount of $10.00. That's more than $1 for every year you waited!
>> Please click on the link below by Thursday, January 16, 2024 to choose how you would like to receive your payment.
crtclaims.digitaldisbursements.com
This payment, once received, will constitute full satisfaction of your claim.
---------------------------------------------

And here's the current email status they're sending out:

"CRT End User: Checks for CRT end-user claims are being prepared and continue to be issued on a rolling basis. If you have not received your check by January 1st, please email [email protected] with your name, current address, claim number (if available), and any previous name/address that may have been used when filing your claim. We will research your claim and reply back with further details."

-------------------------------
Calculating your payout (if you remember how many you claimed):
PAYMENT IS BASED ON WEIGHTED UNITS:
Large CRT Televisions (30" or larger) = 4.3
Smaller CRT TVs and CRT Computer Monitors = 3

Multiply the CRTs you claimed in each category to get your total weighted units, then multiply the total weighted units by $5.78 and you will have your (approximate?) check amount.
--------------------------------------

ORIGINAL POST:
This lawsuit is similar to the one for LCD monitors a few years ago where manufacturers were sued for price fixing. Most major and many minor CRT manufacturers (EXCEPT for Sony and a few others) are now paying into a settlement fund to settle the class action for specific states (see below). A minimum payout of $25 per claim is expected. Not sure if that's per claim FORM or per claimed CRT purchased between 1995 and 2007, but it SEEMS like it's per CRT claimed. The claim fund is $576 Million for this CRT class action vs $571 Million for the LCD class action that paid out big. The online form is here:

https://www.crtclaims.com/FileClaim.htm

Pessimists can pooh-pooh this like they did for the LCD class action, but the LCD class action netted me and friends with legitimate claims of a handful of LCDs $400 or MORE EACH, so this is probably worth your effort.

ELIGIBLE STATES: Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin or the District of Columbia, between March 1, 1995, and November 25, 2007

PURCHASE ELIGIBILITY: You MUST have purchased the monitor/TV from a THIRD PARTY (Best Buy, Mac Connection, PC Connection, Circuit City, etc) and NOT from the manufacturer themselves.

LIST OF TV MANUFACTURERS THAT ARE PART OF THIS SETTLEMENT (Almost everyone of note who sold CRTs except Sony and Mitsubishi):

claims are based on the geographic location of the retailer (for in person purchases) or the purchaser or the retailer (for online purchases)
So for example if you mailed ordered a CRT from a retailer in California while you were living in Colorado, you may still qualify.

You didn't need to for the LCD Class action if you had a "reasonable" claim. This one says they'll audit large claims, so I'm *assuming* that if you are claiming 1-4 or so there's a very VERY small (if not nonexistent) chance of them wanting a receipt. The claim fund is $576 million. I doubt they're going to worry about proof of purchase for a $100 claim (4 CRTS in the 12 year period the action covers).

Seems like a small fund for a settlement that most people will honestly qualify for.

I guessed low and put 5 even though its probably closer to 10. I went through a ton of monitors but don't have any receipts. Thanks for the heads up.

A lot of people said that about the LCD Class action (which was a similar fund at $571 Million), but I guess lots of people just didn't end up filing or something. That's the single biggest class action check I've ever received. NO ONE I know was expecting the size of checks that went out - some got north of $1000, though most were in the $300-$400 range amongst people I know. We'll see what happens. After that LCD class check, I don't count ANY of these out...

Well, I had 5 for me and 5 for my husband as we weren't married during the dates shown. I wonder if the fact that I still have at least 6 of these monitors sitting in my basement will count as proof enough. Thanks for the info OP.
