I hate that Facebook did this. Not sure why they expect every user on the site to have access to a cell phone. I did some research and looks like some of the alternate free text sites, like Pinger, used to work for Facebook verification but haven't in a few months, so I'm assuming they figured out a way to identify numbers that are not attached to a legitimate cell. As of now, it appears the only solution is to use a real cell - prepaid would work fine, and you can get some of those as cheap as $10 or $15 for a single month. Hopefully another smart nerd figures out soon how to bypass the check, or maybe Facebook will come to their senses. Zuckerberg is under extreme scrutiny right now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see someone come in to take the reigns if he can't figure out how to make things profitable, so who knows what kinds of changes may be coming.
