Are you talking about the Black Friday subforum?
The Sites Questions, Issues, or Suggestions subforum might be a good place for this question, but someone might answer it here too: https://slickdeals.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=5

But maybe they stopped because Black Friday has been lame for years.

Indeed. I can count on one hand the number of times that I have actually bought something on Black Friday in my years of deal hunting.

Ad supported? I've never understood how consumers would pay for a streaming subscription and still be stuck watching ads. It's like PAYING to watch commercials.

It's one thing for the completely free ones like Roku Channel where your only cost is the price of your internet service. But to me if I'm paying anything for a content service it better be ad free.

Vudu, Crackle, and Tubi provide plenty of free content. Hulu carries shows like American Horror Stories, 20/20, and plenty of movies. For $12 a year, it's a good deal. Sometimes you have to pay for content. There's not enough out there and the turnover of content with all streaming services is pretty slow, so I don't mind paying for current shows I'd need live TV to watch.

Still seems counterintuitive to pay to watch commercials, even if it's only a buck a month. Even more so if it's more than that nominal amount.

funny thing is, I remember going from basic TV to cable and shocked we'd have tpo pay for TV. The selling point was... no commercials. I think it started at around 19.99 a month or something like that. Not too long after... commercials started being added and prices went up. granted we have so much better content now than then but... yeah it was sold to us as.. ad free tv for cable.
