My only question is how is he rounding them up? Is he just looking for Mexican looking people and demanding to see papers? Without probable cause (and there's no reason to think every Mexican crossed the border illegally, nor is there a way to prove it for the ones that did), it would be an illegal search and seizure, would it not? Illegals may not be able to sue, but surely he makes mistakes and stops regular people. A few of them sue him and he'll have to stop.

While I don't agree with some of his tactics in arresting people, he is right. Why are they singling him out for doing his job? 33,000 illegal immigrants is a ton of people. He is looking out for his community. These people could come in and take jobs for others that need it and that are properly here. He is not just trying to get out illegals, he is trying to stop crime that some of them may bring. He seems like a good guy.

Iagree that he has to be careful and make sure that he is doing it legally.

Sadly we very seldom hear that side of the story.While I know that some of the illegals are good people just looking to survive there are a lot that are criminals too ! nod

Agreed. It's not legal to simply go around demanding citizenship papers from any Mexican he sees. If he is doing this he needs to be prosecuted.

I support Sheriff Joe's actions 100%. There is no bullshit with him and he keeps getting re-elected for a reason. If anyone isn't familiar with him then you should take the time to Google his name and see everything that he has accomplished.

It is one of those crappy situations. Some people are really just trying to make a better live for their families and sometimes it involves coming into our country to do. The sympathic side of me has a hard time knowing that these people are having a hard time. On the other hand, we have a lot of people in our own country having a hard time getting by as well. This is why I have trouble donating to causes that feed and/or help families in counties around the world when we have people here that need it too.

Iagree I'm sympathetic to their suffering but I'm more sympathetic to US citizens suffering. This country is really in a bad bind right now and we can't stand the extra strain on our economy ! nod
