1and1 charge $9 for subsequent year, I believe. Which is pretty standard, and maybe even on the cheap side. But I think they'll probably try to charge extra for the 'private' feature on top of that...

Agreed. Their CS is almost non - existent and billing practices are seriously questionable. They make it nearly impossible to cancel domains and your account.

After reading the replies I went with netfirms two days ago. My domain was up in like 30mins and I was able to transfer the nameservers out. Yes the $4.95 is only one year and it is ~11 after that....
