I don't think so. I am using the S80G (metal) and the S5G (5 port plastic) and haven't had any problems with either of them. The LED indicators are reversed though. Gigabit on the S80G = Green...

Did a little digging both this and the metal case consume around 3.5 watts. Also the operating temperature is the same too, so I'm concluding that you dont know what you are talking about. :shake:

I have the metal case version, it doesn't even get hot....That thing looks like it will last me 10+ years. The TRENDnet TEG-S80G also gets better reviews.

Due to the differences in the power adapter spec (and MAC table size in the 5-port versions - the plastic one had a larger table), I'd say they don't have the same internals. I prefer the metal...
