I don't think so. I am using the S80G (metal) and the S5G (5 port plastic) and haven't had any problems with either of them. The LED indicators are reversed though. Gigabit on the S80G = Green...

Did a little digging both this and the metal case consume around 3.5 watts. Also the operating temperature is the same too, so I'm concluding that you dont know what you are talking about. :shake:
