For some stand-alone TV dvd recorders that take DVD-RAM, they allow "chase" play like in a dvr so you can time shift a show that is currently being recorded. The dvd+- won't work with this feature. ...

Under technical details, it mentions: "Images can be recorded and played in real time at a maximum transfer rate of 33 Mbps", though nothing comes to mind right away on why that would be preferred...

Is there any specific reason why one would get DVD-RAM? Isn't DVD-RW cheaper and better?
