Wow, this one is twice as cheap as the Nikon 70-300 that I just got recently! Not sure if it would work on a D3100 or D5100 though since those cameras don't have an autofocus motor in the camera.

Another alternative is the Tamron 10-24. It's not a 2.8 lens but a great lens for around $400.

That's way too much... unless I find a money tree somewhere. But then I would get Canon. Anyway, I only have 28-135mm right now, so I really want that range. Tamron? Hmmm... Then I...

The Tamron isn't that great given that the sigma 10-20 exists

Well, I already have the "Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR Nikkor Zoom Lens" so that's the one I'm stuck with for now. I guess it's worth some of the extra cost since it does have VR and IF.

Spend a little extra and get the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (around $600 on eBay), one of, if not the best wide angle lens for Canon crop DSLRs (if you have a mid range lens like a 17-50mm, you don't need...

I'd say they are about even. I don't have the sigma, but the Tamron shoots very well for its cost imo. Here is what DPreview says about the two: "Comparison to other wideangle zooms we've...

But no in-built image stabilization right ? I just wish that Canon and Nikon would follow other manufacturers and put image stabilization in their camera bodies which would make the lenses cheaper
