OK, so maybe it's not a waste of money if that's what you intend to use it for. It's just that most people who have flat-screen tv's and blue-ray discs that they want to view on those tv's also have...

Just because it's standard, doesn't mean it's good. 1440x900 is very usable on a 14". And the upcharge over WXGA is usually less than $100.

I could do that, but I'd have to disconnect my blu-ray player first. Seriously, putting a blu-ray drive on a low-res 14" laptop is a gimmick and a waste of money.

Maximum Resolution: 1366 x 768 and 14" screen. Blu-Ray is wasted on this laptop. Would be a better deal with DVD and priced closer to $400.

Hard to find a 14 inch with blu-ray at this price, plus it has hdmi output so you could use it as a blu-ray player output to a larger 1080p display.
