you mean obsolete when it's released, or perhaps even in development? when c2d mac book air's were released in Q4 2010, it was using 2 year old c2d cpu's.

Only 2GB of memory, which is completely non-upgradeable. It might be ok if it had 4GB but that kills the deal for me.

The old Air will be obsolete soon. Unless you want it new, you probably will see prices on used units dropping rapidly. The core 2 duo architecture is just old.
