don't go any smaller than 22" and that's if you absolutely cannot spend the money to get a decent 23"-25"
also, look for 1920 x 1200 resolution (16x10), skip the 1920 x 1080 (16x9)

The buzzword in the visual industry is 1080p. It sells. It also happens to be cheaper to make then a 16x10 resolution.

+1 for an IPS or MVA/PVA panel. Stay away from TN panels if you can. From my experience, the benefits dont come close to outweighing the limitations.
