The Inspiron 580 is not a slim case. Your computer has a 300W power supply. This rating is probably the sustained power as opposed to peak power that some other shady power supply manufacturers...

For a video card that doesn't use power from the PSU and has to fit in a slim case, I'd be surprised if you spent much more than $100.

Probably your best bet is the GT 440 series card. Like the above poster said, all the current cards above the $100 range require you to plug in the PCIe power adapter.
