10 is also used a lot by colleges in the dorms, 192 is limited to 253 users so does not work well in larger networks.

I had a smilar problem months ago - someone sending me some nasty emails.
1) So I found the orginal IP address, in the nasty email header. ex: xx.xxx.182.246

Ok, so now I have an IP address but it starts with 10. which apparently is a private IP address, so who would have addresses begining with 10. ? Normally 192. addresses are one which are used in home...

10.0.0.1 are used in home networks as well. My netgear uses 10.0.0.x instead of 192

In gmail, if you click on the arrow on the "reply" button, and then click view original, it gives you a ton of information. I'm sure the IP or other relevant info are included in there.

How many IPs are you looking at? There should be more IPs that are not of the type 10.x.x.x
Not sure if gmail gives the specific ip where email came from.

Yup, click that little down arrow and choose "show original" to get the complete header info.
This can SOMETIMES allow you to trace it back to an ISP, but it depends on what kind of security...

I would also look at the mail server name over the ip. I bet the server name is used in place of an ip in many spots you are looking.
