You could just get a refurbed i5 from Apple. Spend $20 to upgrade the RAM to 8GB using the current FP deal. Spend another $40ish on an external optical drive. You could buy an OEM copy of W7 for less...

Depends. If you have the laptop go into sleep/hibernate mode, then you probably will have to hit the power button. You can always set the laptop to stay on and merely turn the monitor off.

You can always install Windows through bootcamp on a Mac Mini. I actually got myself a Mac Mini for my living room (was also considering the Zino that was discontinued) and it's a decent machine...

A 12" laptop with a docking station will act just like a SFF PC. Connect the peripherals(keyboard/mouse/etc) and a big monitor to the docking station and you will never have to open the laptop LCD...

The Lenevo H330 series seems to check off alot of your boxes. Think it's going to come in at a larger footprint than the Mac Mini, but otherwise it seems to suit your needs.
