Steam: Sorta kinda. You have to log into steam to get to your games at least once. After that, you can go into "Offline Mode," and play the games (say if you're on a plane) but if you're online...

This is an awesome game played co-op. You can complete the whole campaign with a friend. I find it easier to manage two squads and properly use all their abilities instead of commanding four squads...
