never bought one but have messed around with one these off brand tvs are NEVER for sure, but the one I looked at used samsung remote codes and had a nearly identical menu to my samsung monitor ...

I'm a plasma buyer and will never go with anything else (warmer colors and much better for watching sports imo) but I wouldn't say LCDs suck. I think they've come a very long way.
