I think it is actually easier now as you don't have to decipher the even worse BS with buying a GPU. Now you can buy/upgrade both at the same time and save cash. Intel = CPU (great) + GPU (shit)...

I'm tempted to get this. I am very very slowing gathering parts for an HTPC one slickdeal at a time. I think this will work well but I wonder what the price will be in about 3 months when I...

Used to be a hell of a lot more difficult to build (still get chills thinking about trying to decipher jumper settings in those manuals), but you have to be knee deep in hardware these days to cut...

This will be a much more capable gaming rig, especially if you splurge on a SSD. I'll disagree about mATX tho. I dislike massive boxes. I'm a SFF fanboi.

The other thing that's misleading is the fact that crossfire with the built in 6550d graphics only works in DX11 games. Which means, it doesn't work in many games. It's still a compelling feature,...

Is there anything better than this motherboard for the money?...

the a8 for this price is PERFECT for HTPC use. I'd much rather the 3800 which is only 65w TDP vs this - 100w TDP probably coming down in price due to AMD's trinity line coming up soon. :)

Keep in mind this is likely on clearance/sale because the new 3870K was just released, which is the upgrade to this one. The 3870K is $144 at Amazon, so it's a bit more than this one.

...now. Pick this up, save the cash you would have spent on a GPU, and do light/medium gaming now. In 1-3 years pick up a cheap video card and crossfire them to extend the life of your system. ...

You don't say what you are using it for or how much ram you currently have or think you need but it looks like newegg has several DDR3 775 mb for around $50. I would think just keeping what you have...

Don't know about the W7 exp. index it'll give exactly, but Tom's Hardware ranks the 6550D on the A8-3850 to be several tiers below your 8800 GTS.

I thought it was just me, I don't see it either. A shame too, I was hoping to get this for an HTPC build.
