There is no AOC for grad school. You can however take the a deduction for the tution (Line 34 on the 1040). You will use form 8917. You will get around a $2K deduction based upon the info you have...

yes but the deduction isn't all the tuition that you paid. Fill out form 8917 to calculate. I believe you will be able to deduct $2K (which gets you closer to where you need to be).

No it is a straight tuition deduction. He doesn't qualify for the lifetime learning credit as his AGI is too high.
