well I ended up paying the $55 cuz I want to try this when its out, but I do think thats a bit of a rip off, they are saying that shipping would need to be paid anyway and checking UPS site shipping...

You aren't going to see open source nor open hardware for ARM ever.
The only choice is to buy AMD systems as they drop in power (4.5W -> 2W) and even then it will only be open source software, not...

What make this interesting for me is that it can run embedded Linux with the video component. There are a lot of ARM based embedded boards for $25-$35 dollars, but I've only used them for headless...
