I had the same problem on my old dell (1705 inspiron), but first the fan went out on my GPU then the battery's life just became shorter...and shorter... and shorter.. now it just sits in my closet.

I can use the number row just fine. If you offset the keyboard, then you have bend your wrists (or your neck) the whole time. F that.
