Some of the Amazon reviews are critical of low light performance. Anybody care to comment on this camera's abilities in this regard?
Post #48462358 added 03-14-2012 3:39 PM by datatech in Archived Deals
Well I already have a GF2 but I'd take it over the GF3 because of the hotshoe, better handling, and ptools hack (still waiting for manual exposure in video though).

I just got it at Staples with the 40% off any panasonic camera for $330

Hmm, I can get past the red color. How are the optics and image quality on these?

1. Does this come with AF? reviews says it does. SD comment said it wasn't. 2. How important is IS? the requiring a tripod comment is throwing me off. 3. low light IQ in comparison to good P&S like...

Just got the GF3 w/ 14mm Lens in black for $352 from Amazon warehouse deals :D Both the GF2 and GF3 are great cameras and the 14mm is a great lens, but there are definitely better deals to be had if...

Really? You exaggerate . A lot!

I'm talking about buyers who just want the camera and whatever lens it comes with and that's it. No more buying extra lenses kinda deal. I know it sounds strange, but it's a legitimate concern for...

Similarly, a GF2 with a Lumix 14-42mm which comes with OIS built in can actually replace a point and shoot for most users and most purposes, while providing better quality. These lenses are similar...

You are right. I have this camera. That feature (or lack of) just annoys me. But you are right.

Why would you buy this instead of ... let's say the Olympus E-PL1? I can snag the body and standard lens for under $300.

That's a good point- retail value isn't necessarily a deciding factor in terms of flipping. But you have to admit that the price is also dependent on the outlet in which you sell. There're some...

Not necessarily, for a focal length this short you really don't need IS, just make sure you have sufficiently fast shutter speed.
Post #48470064 added 03-14-2012 10:08 PM by anywho in Archived Deals
You may not need it (for this lens), but the fact that it doesn't have IS in body is annoying in this price range.

I tried that on the GH2 and it did not work.
Post #48469718 added 03-14-2012 9:50 PM by anywho in Archived Deals
I was gonna say this as well. This combo essentially requires a tripod unless you have super steady hands. No image stabilization (neither the camera body nor the pancake lens has this).

Post #48462206 added 03-14-2012 3:32 PM by datatech in Archived Deals
This camera is based on the first generation m43 sensor which does not do very well in low light conditions. I would say the ceiling for this is about ISO 800. But with good light, it does produce...

GF2 still has some advantages over GF3: stereo MIC and hot-shoe. GF3 improved JPEG color tone. At this moment video hack is available for GF2, which improves hugely video quality with 44MB bitrate...

Yup, the hack breathed new life into my GF2. Because of that I ended up using the GF2 once again which lead me to buying the Oly 45 1.8 and will be selling my 20mm 1.7 for a Summilux 25mm 1.4 DG. ...

I know photography 101: aperture, ISO, and shutter speed. (just to give you a reference of where I'm at. I'm a Point and Shoot expert! owned a Canon G9 for over 4 years) I don't know the specifics...

1. well i'm not sure what generation those dslr users were in. however since the digital time (my time), i'm not aware of any prime w/o autofocus. you may want to turn it off in certain situations...

lol scumbag somebacknader made me think I overpaid for my new camera. The OP's camera has a prime lens. Yours didn't.
Post #48470648 added 03-14-2012 10:33 PM by datatech in Archived Deals
Well THIS comes with the pancake 14mm lens which doesn't need IS. And if someone wants to add a zoom lens then just buy a Panasonic lens which comes with OIS.
Post #48470778 added 03-14-2012 10:37 PM by anywho in Archived Deals
Yeah, but what about taking any shots beyond 14mm? I don't see how the lack of IS in body is helping anything. Edit: "Just buy a Panasonic lens which comes with OIS"? Really? I was talking about...
Post #48470862 added 03-14-2012 10:41 PM by datatech in Archived Deals
But the lens that comes with THIS camera is a prime lens.
Post #48470930 added 03-14-2012 10:48 PM by anywho in Archived Deals
That's nice. It's worth more. I'm talking about functionality for SDers.
Post #48470960 added 03-14-2012 10:51 PM by anywho in Archived Deals
My point is that the GF2 does not have IS in body, and neither does the lens this deal comes with.
Post #48470964 added 03-14-2012 10:51 PM by datatech in Archived Deals
Using a prime lens is very functional, are you implying that SDers are a bunch idiots that cannot frame their shots properly by moving with their feet?
Post #48470998 added 03-14-2012 10:55 PM by anywho in Archived Deals
Ur crazy datatech! I like it! But you should know that voluntary movement, when it can be avoided, is no SD.

Good deal w/ the 14mm lens. If only this was the black model! Amazon and other retailers have the GF2 w/ 14-42mm lens for between $400-425.

The IQ is great and the optics are virtually unlimited because of the number of adapters that are oit there for m4/3 cameras if you dont mind focusing manually. These are great filmmaking cameras too...
Post #48459194 added 03-14-2012 1:26 PM by Promit in Archived Deals
Image quality and low light performance is than any point and shoot, (slightly) worse than most current DSLRs and Nex cameras. Not as good as the newest batch of m4/3 cameras either. But very...
Not that either are great cameras by today's standards, but the GF2 with 14mm at this price is a no-brainer compared to the E-PL1, unless you NEED a zoom lens. Keep in mind the GF2 has been hacked...
