Indeed. What Zipper did was take a game called Socom I and in the end turned it into something else.
Socom: Confrontation by /6 was a better attempt.

Betas are supposed to be used for testing purposes. However, publishers have farked it up royally by turning it into a marketing incentive to get people to preorder.
